I meant to go see it at the pictures but never got round to it. Loved the book, loved the original BBC series with Alec Guinness, was interested to see how Gary Oldman would carry off Smiley. Fucking brilliantly, is the answer. Well worth a couple of hours of your time.

Oldman Schmoldman... Is it wrong that I'm only interested in Mr Firth's performance...?!

Tart! There's a shitload of high end British acting talent in it. Oldman, Firth, John Hurt, Benedict Cumberbach, Roger lloyd Pack, and a load more.

FYP...!

I know - wanted to see it when it first came out, but, as usual, didn't get round to it! Is it out on DVD now?

BTW - did you enjoy our demolition of the old enemy the other night?! Bates out, Bates out, Bates out!!

Yeah, came out Monday.

Good for you. I have to admit to enjoying Harry Rednap looking at time in the 'scrubs.

I either heard or read it was boring but I haven't read the book or seen the BBC series so what the fuck do I know?

Yeah, me too! He'll fit right in - and at least he's already used to sharing showers with tattooed prima donnas!

Heretic!

Anyway, mighty fine movie. The cold war aestethics is spot on, and Oldman is a boss.

I've never read any LeCarre, but I've always meant to, because my Mom was a fan.

I haven't read his newest one yet, but the most recent one I read a couple years ago showed he still had the talent for writing great novels.

What does he do with his spies in a post-Cold-War world? Is the enemy al-Qaeda?

Still in the theatres here. You're say I should see it. Can you guarantee I'll like it?

I am a longstanding John le Carré fan. He's one of the very few writers of modern fiction ( Anne Tyler, John Barth, John Irving, William Styron and that's about it) that I repeatedly read. Part of his attraction to me is that he accurately describes the ambiguities, betrayals and realities that are part and parcel of the life of individuals operating in organizations.

This afternoon— with great trepidation and foreboding— I will venture forth to see this film. Hollywood has wrecked so many stories; the book is almost always better.

They tell me that this film shares a characteristic of Shakespeare plays; it is exhausting for viewers since it requires intense concentration if one is not to miss subtleties that are important to the work's consilience.

I regret missing the BBC version with Alec Guinness; there was a long period in my life when I didn't own a television. Even today, when they see what I call a television, many people feel it necessary to assert that I still don't own one.

cumberbatch? damn, i'll have to see if it's on anywhere next week. hurt is good, well - better than, but he's in just about every damned thing it's almost a relief when he's NOT in something.
