Times Square Football Kickoff Concert

OK - who is planning on watching this tonight?

I'm not a football fan (please don't throw things at me!) But I happen to be staying at a hotel in Times Square right now. I'm going to be in the middle of this mess whether I want to be or not (I can't even get my car out of hotel hock until sometime tomorrow, even if I could leave today). Apparantly they're closing off the whole place just like they do on New Year's Eve. They're starting the "shut down" at noon today. Right now its 10am here and I'm about 3/4 of a mile away at an all day meeting.

I'm told that the crowds will be immense and I will have to fight my way through crowds even to walk back to my hotel (no possibility of taking a cab since traffic will be blocked off).

So if you're watching the event on TV and see a guy with a big black briefcase fighting his way through the crowd... that's me.

I would watch it if I could, but I'm working out of town, and have a hunch that things will work out so I'm sitting in my car in commute traffic both during the concert, and at kickoff. Oh well, it' my life...

Yes, the NFL's regular season starts tonight.

The New York football Giants are hosting the SF 49-ers.

Yes - the game immediately follows the concert/kick off event... first time in more thatn 50 years the season starts on a Thursday night with a prime time match up. San Francisco 49ers against the New York Giants.

"5pm (Eastern) today - NFL Kickoff Live from Times Square, an unprecidented free football and music festival to kick off the season and celebrate the resilient spirit of New York and America"

Bon Jovi, Enrique Inglesias, Alicia Keys, Eve, plus a fashion show for Reeboks' new NFL Equipment line.

Westwood One will distribute the radio boradcast nationwide."

Want to see the view out of my hotel room right now? Turn on ESPN (at least inbetween the rounds of golf they're also showing)

Or - looks like lots of the major news channels are showing pieces of it.

The TV camera angles are almost the same as the view from my room except that I'm higher up.

Actually - I got through about 20 minutes ago - I'm in my hotel now. I'm actually quite surprised they didn't ask to search it. Considering my location I'm not feeling very secure at the moment.

Yes - exactly. I actually feel slightly more secure at airports... but not much.

Haven't these people discovered porn on the web yet? I can't imagine why they'd bother with football if they knew about all the hot babes that hang out here at Lit.
