Biden probably won't be Person of the Year, which has been pretty standard for a newly elected president. But it would be a big stretch to say he affected the news more than anyone else. Trump, on the other hand, is a primary figure in 3 of the 4 biggest stories of the year (the election, the response to Covid, and his impeachment trial) and was at least an implicit part of the fourth (the protests). It's supposed to be an acknowledgement of the year's biggest newsmaker, and that was The Idiot.


It occurs to me that when the AP announces its list of the top news stories of 2020, which usually happens around Christmas, the U.S. presidential election will not be at #1. This has no doubt happened before, but I can't recall when it might have been.
