French authorities said a "freedom convoy" could face jail time if participants block roads in a planned protest in Paris against COVID-19 restrictions.

Paris police said the protests aimed at "blocking the capital" from Friday through Monday before heading to Belgium on Monday won't be allowed to block public roads in Paris due to "risks of trouble to public order," the Associated Press reported. Police warned protesters who choose to block traffic could face two years in prison, a $5,000 fine and a suspended driver's license.

"There will be a special deployment of officers to prevent blockages of major roads, issue tickets and arrest those who contravene this protest ban," French police said

To the point of your post title, I as a Canadian disagree. In two or three months, the whole situation they are protesting about will be over...they can keep protesting right up to that point.

From my view, these are those dip shit truck drivers who have no respect for fellow user of the highways. They drive and text, speed, tail gate, make dangerous pass etc etc. The longer they sit parked, the safe our roads are.....

Except that they are interrupting the supply chain and sabotaging the Canadian AND American economies to hurt President Biden and Prime Minister Trudeau. Rightwing Deplorables in other countries are also starting to adopt their tactics.

The average uninformed voter won't put it together, just like they don't get how Covid scofflaws exacerbated the crisis and sabotaged the economy.

That ^ lack of awareness will likely reward Deplorable rightwing candidates who have an established propagada machine to shift the blame for the problems onto decent political representatives.

Major fines and jail time seems appropriate for the "Freedumb" truckers level of societal disruption.

The arsonists and property destroyers that are identifeid during riots rightfully get hammered. So should the "Freedumb" truckers who are doing far greater, though less obvious, damage.

First,I am not experiencing any shortages, no loss of any supplies, the store shelves are not bare, gas at the pumps...etc etc. Most of these so called Truckers,are private/seasonal, very few are sitting and refusing loads. The reality is, they have no loads till spring.

If they were hauling, it would remove some pressure off the long haulers, ( due mostly to the retirement of over 50,000 US drivers) but,the supply chain issues are more than just moving finished goods around.

Last,these guys are bitching mostly,about rules brought in by your Government, on cross border shipping,then any other reason. Which is silly since most of these wingnuts only haul in Canada...
