Thumb rings on a women

It use to mean when a woman wore a thumb ring that she was a lesbian. Does it still mean that or does it mean nothing at all?

I don't think it's an exclusive lesbian concept, but I have seen silver bands and thumb rings as part of the lesbian gear. So if you see a woman with a thumb ring, I wouldn't think she's a lesbian just for that but...

It's sort of like earrings on men, straight men wear them all the time, but gay men really like them and at one time it was part of some code.
