Synopsis:
Gamma Universe, Earth, Arabia, 1908

In the middle of the Sultan's court, a strikingly beautiful dancer stood out and held the attention as she danced. Wearing tradional silk attaire of a slave dancer, she also wore something that a normal slave would not. Upon her wrists were a pair of golden bracers with the infinity symbol on facing away from the body.
As the dance came to an end, she knelt before the Sultan with her head bowed. Applause rang out from around the large antetheather. There was one who did not clap, the Sultan's court magican Vzazin. He only stood there to the right of the sultan, his right hand clutching his staff and fire in his eyes as he looked down upon the girl. The dancer's voice was soft and sweet.

"Do you wish to use your last wish, Master?"
"No, no. I shall let you know when. I wish to tell you what a slendid job you did. You are allowed to retire for the evening."
"Thank you, Master."

She rose gracefully from the kneel, her silks whispering softly. Almost every pair of eyes watched her leave, no sound being uttered until she left the court. The air was soon alive with talk and laughter, though one did not join in. His name was Vazin and he was the Sultan's right hand man, taking care of the dirty business so that the Sultan wouldn't have to deal with it. His black eyes narrowed as he continued to watch the direction the girl disappeared into. Without a word, he followed in the same direction, his red robe whispering along the stone floor.

The hallway was lit by torches every few feet, enough to see and yet far enough to leave large blocks of shadows. The girl's quarters was set in the servant's wing and marked with the infinity symbol above her door. He smiled for a moment when he reached her door, an evil glint in his eyes.

He entered without knocking, catching the girl in the middle of changing. She had managed to get into a pair of purple pantaloons, but she still had on her silk top. She had just taken off her face cloth when she felt a slight breeze from the direction of the open door. She turned around and bowed her head upon seeing Vazin.

"How may I serve you m'lord?"
"Serve me? No, I came to say your time is finished here. girl."

He grinned evilly as he stepped into the room, carefully closing the door behind him. The girl blinked and looked up, her head tilted to the side a little as an expression of confusion crossed her beautiful features.

"What does M'lord mean? My master still has one last wish before I can leave."
"Hah ha ha. Do you really think I believe that? I have been watching the sultan. He is smitten with you and I don't think he will let you go so easily. No, your presence only keeps me from doing what I wish because the sultan has become too cautios. No, you must leave now."

The girl gulped softly and stood up, backing up against the the wall. She was scared of the evil look the was getting and she had nowhere to run because Vazin was in her way.

"Please m'lord. Please let me be. I have done nothing to harm you."
"Your very presence is enough to harm me. Now I shall send you to another time and place. Without this..."

He used the end of his staff to pluck her lamp from the pile of pillows it was resting upon. She screamed in fear and tried to lunge for it, but she was knocked away. She whimpered softly as she huddled in the corner. Vazin reached into his robes and pulled out a pair of hourglasses which were connected together by their bases. The sand in the top hourglass flowed downward in the proper direction while the bottom half sand flowed in an upward direction. The two streams of sand hit together in the center, forming a swirling vortex.

"As the sand flows through time
so too shall the flesh of the living.
Let time take control and send
you where it may. Begone!"

He dropped the the hourglass, shattering it into several pieces. The girl's eyes grew wide as the sand became a swirling mass, moving towards her fast. She screamed, but was drowned out by the roar of the howling tornado. The tornado picked her up easyily and engulfed her in it. The sand itself did plenty of damage, leaving her garments in mostly taters, one bracelet destroyed while the other one was severly cracked. Soon the tornado collapsed upon itself, a small pile of sand left upon the floor.

In all of written history, such an unprovoked attack against a djinn or genie was unheard of. Magic used by mortals was limited in scope, but it was the genies and djinns who held the most power in magic with their ability to grant any wish the owner of their lamp wanted. Because of this, the genies and djinns were few in numbers and highly revered as scared beings. Once a person used their three wishes, the lamp would disappear and reapper in another part of the world, often someplace hidden so that the power wasn't being abused too much. While being able to harness the power of the cosmos itself, this in itself could bring unpredictable results. in order to control this chaos, the magical beings wore golden bracers with the symbol of infinity engraved upon them to act as a focus for the magic, as well as their lamp or bottle in which they dwelled. Now however, with the damage sustained to the injured genie's bracers, the results were even unknown to her as to what sort of chaos her magic would bring if someone used it, including herself.

-Central Park-

Safiri blinked as the sunlight attacked her bare skin in the places her clothes were not covering her body. Her head pounded as she took in her surroundings.

She was in a grassy space, trees surrounded her and as she looked up a woman in what looked to be a brazierre and short pants went by in a flurry of motion, futuristic looking wheels attached to her feet, her bare legs glistening in the sun. She had a dark glassy looking shield protecting her eyes and her long platinum locks were up in a careless bun.

Safiri stared as the woman sped by with a 'whirr'. Before she could think of a question to ask the woman had dissappeared behind the trees.

She looked down at her tattered clothes and her broken bracer. Only the one on her right wrist was intact. She wondered what this would mean for her genie magic. She began to remember how she had gotten to this strange time and place, although still very uncertain of where and when she was she knew it was not Arabia and certainly very far into the future. She thought of Vazin and what he had done to her. Wondering what would become of her, a genie with no bottle and no way of knowing what her powers could or could not do with only one bracer. She felt completely overwhelmed and began to cry.

Josh strecthed for a moment as he walked into Central Park, enjoying the beautiful day. He was 23 and lived in a little apartment a few blocks from the park, but he was currently jobless. He had had a job at a small comic book firm as a writer, but that had went under due to some finanical problems by the head boss. The job had been alright, but he was wanting something more exciting out of life.

He stood about six foot tall from head to toe, and had a slim built body. He was a little more than skinny, but he was in pretty good shape from doing light workouts every few days. He was aslo a nerd and spent a lot of his free time delving into fantasy and scifi. It would have been a very interesting experience to find a way that such things could actually happen, but he always knew such a thing could be a long shot.

He wore a pair of cut-off jeans, a white t-shirts, and some brown sandals. He brought his backpack with him which contained a change of clothes because he had planned on heading to the local YMCA for a quick spin. He hummed softly as he walked along one of the many paths through the park, running a hand through his short brown hair. He stopped for a moment when he heard the sound of someone crying. Normally he wouldn't have stopped, but he was curious for some reason. He soon found Safiri as she laid huddled beneath a tree as she cried. He tilted his head for a moment before speaking to her as his blue eyes studied what he could see of her form.

"Excuse me, but is something wrong?"

Safiri looked up to see a young man staring down at her with concern.

She realized he'd never understand but she had to try to get someone to help her. "I...I'm lost." she murmured, trying to wipe her tears away as he knealt beside her. "I don't know where I am, or even what time I'm in..." she sobbed as she looked down at her wrist. "One of my bracers is broken, I don't think I can blink my way back." she bagan to cry again as the man looked at her strangely. She didn't care for the moment. He was mortal, he couldn't help her either. She tried to explain further but didn't know where to begin, "Do you believe in genies?" she asked.

Several things ran through his head as he tried to sort out what she was saying. He could understand that her being lost was frightful to her, but some of the other stuff was very odd. Some one else probably would have thought she was crazy, but for some reason he foundt her interesting. He gave her a smile as he replied.

"There's no need to really cry over being lost. Getting lost is a common thing after all. Though I really don't understand completely about the bracer stuff you are talking about."

He grinned for a moment when she asked if he believed in genies.

"If believe, you mean do I think they exist, sure. Tales of magical creatures always have some truth to them. I'm a pretty big fan of the fantasy and mythical lore myself. However now it's the time to dwell on it. We need to do something about your clothes."

He shifted to slide his backpack off and pulled out a medium-sized white t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans.

"You can wear these for now. There's a bathroom you can change into them at. Here, go ahead and change and I'll wait here for you, ok?"

He wasn't sure why he was trying to help the strange woman like this, but he felt there was just soemthing about her. He pulled his backpack back on as he stood to to see how she would react next.

Safiri sniffled and nodded, putting on the strange futuristic and gendernon-specific clothes. They felt strange against her skin. She came out and looked for the man to thank him. "I'm Safiri. You have been so kind to me. If I had both bracers I could say for certain I'm your genie but...I am afraid of what my powers would do if I tried to grant you a wish now." she admitted honestly. He looked surprised at her admission to being a genie. She smiled wanly, "That's how I'm lost. I don't just mean I don't know where I am location-wise, I don't know when I am either."

He looked up as she came out and smiled. He listened for a few moments and then nodded.

"It sounds like things are bad at the moment. Hmm... Tell you what, since it's dangerous for a pretty genie as yourself to be walking around everywhere alone, why don't you stay with me till we can figure out what to do? It'll be a little safer for you, and I would very much enjoy the company. What do you say?"

He held out a hand to her for a moment as he continued to speak.

"I was planning on going swimming for a little bit at a place nearby, and then after that we can go back to my apartment and figure out what to do."

Safiri took his hand, regarding him with an expression of surprise, "You really believe me? Or, are you just humoring me because you think I'm crazy?" she asked.

He chuckled softly for a moment.

"If I was any other person, then I would have answered it only to humor you and then take you to the nearest medical ward for mental help."

HE shook his head softly.

"No, I am more open-minded to believing in such things. This would sounbd strange to others, but I hoped that someday of actuyally being apart of something magical would come true. Even just by looking at the clothes you had on and the way you look, I could tell you weren't from around here. In fact, your outfit looked more like some of the medieval and fantasy outfits from long ago. As you probably noticed, silks aren't exactly the normal garb around here. I'll try and help you get acquinted with this world."

He lead her through the park, pointing out the different people and things around them. Even though there was a lot to explain, he did his best to condense information about the different fixtures around the park, and then the people. He wasn't sure how much she understood, but he tried anyways. He looked over at her every few moments, smiling.

"Do you understand everything? Or is there anything that confuses you?"

Safiri shrugged, very clearly overwhelmed but not wanting to dissappoint Josh. "I...don't know. It's all so much, so fast." She was exhausted, mentally, physically, but mostly emotionally. Her surroundings were confusing and a little frighteneing. "Is there someplace where one can be allowed to relax a little bit and compose themself? Maybe have something to eat and a little rest perhaps? Do you do that in the future?" she asked, feeling silly asking but needing his help desperately.

He chuckled softly for a moment and smiled at her.

"Of course we do such things in the future. It's called relaxation. And yes, I have such a place we can go, my apartment. It's not much, but it will suit the purposes that you ask for. Gimme a moment and food will be handled."

So her request changed his plans a bit, but he could work with it. He pulled out his cellphone and took a few minutes to order a couple of pizzas. By the time he had finished, they had arrived at his apartment. It was a small single bedroom apartment, the living room as the main rom, to the left the ding room, the kitchen and a small hallway down to the bedroom and bathrom.

"Here's where you can relax. I'll show you the bathroom where you can get cleaned up and food should be here shortly. Come on."

He led her back to the bathroom, turning on the light.

"Here's a spare bathrobe you can use when you get done. Here's a towel you can use. Since you probably haven't used a shower, I'll give you a little walkthrough."

He took a couple of minutes to show how the shower worked, where the washcloth and soap were before he stepped out.

"Get yourself cleaned up and then we can eat."

With that, he closed the door behind himself and went to set the table.

Safiri was greatful for the tutorial and thought this was such luxury, warm water at the turn of a knob! She enjoyed her shower very much and was clean and feeling refreshed in the soft robe when she came out, smelling such a mixture of strange and delicious scents coming from the room where her new friend was, she called him friend because she was uncertain if he was her master or not.

By the time Safiri came out, the pizza had arrived and was set out on the table. He wasn't sure what kind she would have liked, so he just ordered a plain cheese pizza and a pepperoni one. Both boxes were open so that she could take her pick. He had already gotten a couple of pieces of cheese pizza and was about to take a bite when she came in. He smiled and gave a little whistle.

"That robe suits you. Go ahead and help yourself, there's plenty here."

He waited till she was somewhat comfy before he thought to ask her a few questions. He hoped that it wouldn't be too hard for her.

"What were things like from where you came from?"

Safiri took a bite of the strange but wonderful tasting food and considered her answer as she chewed. "It was...much different, an long ago time and a far away place. Much warmer where I'm from, life was not as easy, runnign water was not a reality as you have in your home here. Things were just...verydifferent." she knew that wasn't a complete answer but it was the best she could give fro the moment. As she ate she looked at her arm with the broken bracer and wondered what would happen if she attempted to use her poweres, would they work? "Could you perhaps wish for something minor? I woulf like to see if this works." she requested.

He nodded thoughtful as he listened to her explaination of where she lived.

"Sounds pretty harsh. A wish? Well, give me a moment and I'll think of something you can try."

He smiled for a moment before he finished a slice of pizza, mulling over it. Finally coming up with something simple, he smiled.

"How about a wish of a thousand dollars?"

Safiri nodded, "Well.." she took a look at the dollar left sitting on the table left over from paying for the pizza. It seemed simple enough, a wish for a thousand more of those. She closed her eyes and envisioned it, then used the power in the place her brain used to access this magic and felt a strange vibration going through her bracers, especially the broken one, it almost burned. "Ah!" she yelped, waving the burned wrist and looking around with a sigh. Obviously, it had not worked properly...but then she looked up at the mount of cash on the table she had just been staring at a moment ago. The one dollar had turned into more than the thousand she had asked for. It looked to be a pile of at least 100,000 dollars. "Hmmm... that's not quite what you wished for. I don't think this is working properly." she said, self-critically.But the expression of awe on his face made her stop and take notice.
