This day 29 years ago, Maria Callas breathed her last in Paris.

Wikipedia says:
She combined an impeccable bel canto technique with great dramatic gifts, making her the most famous opera singer of the era. An extremely versatile singer, her repertoire ranged from classical opera seria, to the bel canto operas of Donizetti, Bellini, and Rossini, to Verdi and Puccini.

Callas is the reason we got in touch with opera. What about you?

Being an opera singer myself, I always thought Callas was one of the most amazing singer in the world. This dramatic soprano was at her best before they made her lose weight. She was still amazing after getting slim but there was a little something missing... Losing weight has an effect on the voice, just like adding pounds, and believe me I know about it!

Her version of Madama Butterfly's "Un Bel Di, Vedremo" is the best I've ever heard.
