Thoughts? Opinions?

So, I've been thinking about this idea for quite a while and I've finally come to the point where I'm (thinking) about definitely doing it. I've been a "classy porn" / pinup girl fan for quite some time and I tried my hand at posing over at the Amateur Pic thread as well as had my own Yahoo group. Well the Yahoo group got closed basically because I wanted to expand on my idea a bit more.

I want to open up my own risque' picture/cam/video website. There's a lot of money to be made in something like this and it's something that I thoroughly enjoy and can do from home. Sites I've been looking at and would like to creatively parallel are: SuicideGirls.com (I'm the owner of a subscription and it's a wonderful site) and LoveRenee.com

So now I'd like thoughts, opinions, etc. I'm looking in to how I can do the billing and stuff, so far I've come across Verotel.com (tickets club) and CC Bill .

Well I'm not going to pose on Suicide Girls, I've just been a fan for years so I'm using it as a frame of reference. Basically, I want to open my own website kind of like SG with the intention of it being more classy than pornographic; nothing too explicit is going to be on it.

In that case, I think it's a wonderful idea. The world can always use more art, especially if it helps us get past the "Oh no, it's SKIN!" idea. I think if everyone were more comfortable in their own skin, we'd have fewer problems.

Sorry, tangent. Paypal might be a good starting point. It's easy to understand, it's safe... hard to get unexpectedly jacked in a bad way.

Well I would definitely go with PayPal because that's what I use for my web design gigs, but anything "adult" oriented they won't help out with, so I'm really looking more into CC Bill, seems pretty okay so far and there's a very very very very low chance of getting "jacked", so that's good.

Billing is going to be your major barrier. The ones that cater directly to adult sites are going to stick it to you pretty heavy, and any service that doesn't directly cater to adult sites usually ends up refusing transactions from them eventually.

You'll also want to make sure you have all the appropriate 2257 paperwork in place, even if you're the only model on the site.

You might consider a testrun at someplace like Ifriends, or Peekshows. You might even consider using one of those as the cam component of your website, eliminating some initial overhead at first. Ifriends would be a good choice for that really, even though I'm a chat admin over at Peeks and really should be tooting their horn You can just do more linking back and forth, set your own prices, and have looser restrictions at Ifriends as to what you can/can't or are willing/unwilling to do.

Edit to add: Since you're aiming for something more classy, Ifriends would certainly be the better choice. There's an expectation of a lot more at Peeks. Ifriends has a lot more of the type of audiance you're seeking.

I did a bit of a test run here and with a Yahoo group and it went over extremely well, which is why I have decided to really start getting on this website idea. Billing seems to be taken care of with this place, the only thing I won't be able to do is process a Visa card, but there's Mastercard, Discover, online checks as well as telephone billing, so it's cool.

Honestly, I think that there's sort of a porn consortium for independent girls starting their own sites - you see common layouts and common promotional venues. It's clearly a huge business, with its own structure and players. Follow the links on the top couple of sites advertised on this website, and you'll soon see patterns.

Have your friend pick the things up and deliver them to you the next day, keeping an eye out for strange characters, or maybe even re-ship them to you to better secure things and keep your location secret.

While my girl was working on cam, she had people send her everything from leather bustiers to chainmail bikinis for nothing more than getting to see them on cam and exclusive pics. We're talking about some seriously expensive stuff that you can get a lot of use out of. Not to mention the vast quantities of sexy panties you'll end up with

The interaction will keep people coming back day after day, makes them feel like more than a member-number, and develops word of mouth that will grow your site. Just be *careful* Those stalker stories are far more than stories. People can easily go overboard.

Okay, you are awesome in my book now. Thank you so much for the tips, they're really great ideas. I'm going to set up a PO Box perhaps after a month of the site being open, but I will have a blog and also a forum, much like this - I know how to code them, so it should be no problem.

Here I am again *laugh* It's been a while since I built an adult site that wasn't just a throw-together like my stories link, and I'm having fun offering suggestions.

Make sure you have a teaser portal linked from the main index as well. Put up a nice set of teaser pics, including at least a few member-side quality ones. Have a nice, sultry voice you're comfortable teasing with? Put up a link to an audio file welcoming people to come inside The power of a woman's voice is not to be ignored. Perhaps even a short teaser video within the portal as well. Give people a good example of what they'll find on the inside, and they'll be ready to come on in and join you.

Outline the nature of what is available inside with the teases, including any differences between what is on the teaser and the member-side. No huge "JOIN NOW!" type links on the teaser pages, either. Just put a join link in the main menu. People will find it, and it feels like badgering when there's a join now link every three inches on a page.

Don't write the teaser, or the main site for that matter, like a webmaster. Write it from a personal perspective. Since you can code, you can really put some punch into the site by making it all about you, not filtered through a webmaster.

Play around with a few different welcomes. If you have a higher pitch, perhaps shoot for something playful as opposed to sensual. You might just surprise yourself Every woman has a certain something in her voice at times that can curl a man's toes. I'm sure your boyfriend knows what yours is, grab up some suggestions from him.

At the very least, even if you never find anything you're comfortable with, you'll probably get a few laughs out of hearing them played back to you. My girl recorded megabytes of stuff she would never let another soul hear once she played it back, but she had fun in the process, and there were always a few winners in the bunch that made it to the save button.
