Thoughts in a shoe box

A deck of cards and my backgammon board...

the only 2 places I compete and often times, win.

Compete for a man? Never.

 ( i need toes today ADR)

I know ADR has lots of shoes, but do they come with toes?

If so can I have some pretty ones like yours please?

:rose:

ok im adding a crepe paper rose that my son switched places in line during his first ever spring concert to be able to hand to me...on the leaf it says:
show me the way that i should go,
lead me to the path i should follow.
teach me the words that i should say,
take my hand and show me the way.
(yeah yeah i have tears in my eyes right now, same as i did that night and will every time i remember that moment)
AND my hand made mothers day card from my daughter that reads:
roses are red
violents are blue
gina loves you mommy
inside were smushed up daisies she picked just for me :D

( i almost feel like i might have actually shown some of me this time ADR  )

A golf ball. I need to get back to playing.

Good idea. Maybe I'll drag my sorry ass to the driving range today and do a little putting, too.

mm

neat thread...

In my bedroom, I do have a tin can about the size of a shoebox, which contains as many small toys and oddbits from my life as I've been able to cram into it...

There are, among other things - a few sweet notes I got from boys in high school and college... a little yellow plastic lion that I got at a fun-fair/carnival when I was a kid... I remember that it was one of the few times my parents actually let me throw money away on some cheap game - throw a dart break a balloon, or pick up a duck and win a prize... I must have been maybe 7?

a chunk of amethyst geode... many other things that are special to me. This year I want to ask my friend Chris to catch a cicada for me (hah, not a challenge, they are EVERYWHERE) and put in hard resin for me to add to my things.

Wow - that thought just occurred to me... what a wonderful thread... I know, I'm not quite in the spirit of it, but my box is that meaningful to me...

nite all - massive thunderstorm here and lightning all around - i feel i'm pushing my luck!

Thank you, watergirl. I always love to see you post to my threads.

And I'm glad it gave you something to remember.

We can post 250 words about what we think or how we feel about something but I think a thread like this one says a lot more about us as real people.

I HAVE shoes!!! I could give Imelda a run for her money in shoes (and watches and purses and teapots, too.) I love shoes. I love to go to Nordstrom's and look at $400 pairs of shoes. I love to try them on and look in the little feet mirror at my little feet in those fabulous shoes.

But there is a point to this thread and it's not shoes.

Suppose everywhere you went you had to carry a shoebox with you that contained something unique or special or unusual to you, and you alone. Of course, considering that we are all multi-dimensional people, there well be more than one item in that shoe box. When someone would naturally ask you to show them what you are carrying, what thing(s) you would show them from your shoebox?

For me, on the first layer of my shoebox stuff would be a large, well patched and loving heart.
Mine.

Soooo.... what say you?

I have been thinking about this since you started the thread...

Like you, Rosie, I would start with my heart...

Next my family and those who have shared a part of my life in the past... memories that are unique to me... that have helped to make me the person I am now...

A lock of hair from Baby J... the light of my life...

Photos of my pets both past and present...

The small dagger Himself gave to me... oh so precious to me...

A piece of quartz crystal and an amethyst geode from Arizona...

An old turquoise nugget also from Arizona...

Books... any books... I read anything...

*sigh* That is enough for now...

i of course have to add something else to my shoe box. a double item so to speak a wood box given to me by my grandfather that belonged to my grandmother. she died when i was a small boy and it holds a bible given to me by someone. i think that box is one of my most prized possesions.

bumping this up from the past.

I loved reading the posts of others in this thread. It said so much about them as REAL people. So many of us see each other as posters who are one-dimensional. Nothing could be further from the truth, but it takes time and effort to get to know someone behind their posts.

I loved this thread and too bad it took such a nose dive the first time... guess we can watch it do the same again, LDW. Thanks for the little walk down memory lane, though.

your welcome and i liked this one so i thought i would bring it back up.

I think it's kinda goofy to bump your own thread, but this one was special to me, although it got very few posts. (Kinda like most of my threads... LOL)

It's a nice walk down memory lane and would be fun to see what new things people would add to their boxes or what some of the new people would put in theirs.

I would definately add my dog collar to the box. My Sting and Madonna ticket stubs. Jane's college graduation program. A picture of Michael's first house. My MRI films.

mmm lots of changes in the last couple of years for me.

The key to the big honkin' brass padlock on the box - let them try to figure out how I got it out of there while it was locked... :p

An altoids tin, all the paint scraped off to be just plain, rubbed tin; with a pencil stub, some scraps of paper, a $20 bill and a magnet in it.

A moleskin 3 X 5 journal

A flash drive

A mini-cd rom disc

A set of lock picks

A deck of cards, well worn and faded.

A leatherman micra mini tool

and a small glass bottle with a mysterious purple mist in it

But it has to be a wooden cigar box, not a shoe box ;)

All my cd's and disks that have my pictures on them.

The necklace my dad got me when I graduated and the one he got me for christmas when I was 8.

The necklace my great grandpa made for me.

The ring that my mom got me with the money she got when my grandpa died.

K's grandfathers watch.

I think that's it. I"ll have to think on this.

Hmmm what a neat and thought provoking thread...well for me my box would contain...

*a lock of baby curls from each of my 2 kids, they are my life
*charcoal, a sharpener and an empty sketch pad
*my grandmothers hand written cook book
*ipod with an endless supply of music
*set of 4 tent pegs and some rope...(my little secret) :D
*my camera with an endless memory card
*my divorce papers as a reminder of the person i never want to be again
*and a key that will be given to my soul mate when/if i ever find him

thats it for now i guess....

:cathappy:

Oh, my gosh. I nearly forgot. Mine and the kids baby books (they all have the kids hair in em).

When opening my shoebox, it would seem empty.

But really...it would be full of love.

Just checked my original list

I don't have enough books or handbags on it.

;)

I would put my christmas present from mom in there. It was one earring of a set that granny wore til she died...we lost one someplace and mom had a pendant made for me with the other.

My daughters butterfly wings from her recital.

The look on my sons face and the feeling in my heart when he realized he had hit a home run (gosh where was my camera that day! Doesnt matter, mommies never forget)

Pictures...tons and tons of pictures of my kids...of flowers...of the baby deers...all my pets and relatives...you get the picture. :)

One very special phone number.

Bottled up and corked tight hopes and dreams.
