This past weekend I was the RSO for a 3 gun match.

The first two events were a 'shoot house' (Loved putting that together) and a KD shoot

The third stage we took the shooters through the environment. High desert here, but this is the Monsoon season and we've had a LOT of rain so it was like putting some of these shooters In LA. Watching them trying to make tactical decisions while not really knowing where they were was a gas.

On the other hand ( and there always is one) there was three shooters that were adapting. The ones that figured out the third set were impressive. One is a security consultant, the other two were recently back form Afghanistan. Their professionalism was impressive.

I took some pix and videos. If the editing is decent (there's a lot of shit in the stills and video) they're going to post them on some pop media. I'll send you the link to that mysterious ite or if it happens.

PS I made a typo and spelled 'you' ---------------- 'yo.' The "on-line" dictionary thought it was just fine.

If it takes you as long to edit this gun-porn as it has your anti-American/Obama commercial, thor will be long dead by the time it hits the interwbs.

I have not been range officer for a long time. My best time as range officer was throwing a couple of team coaches off my range when they were doing improper coaching during an individual ISU match. Fuckers bitched to my coach, and he told them to go stick.

I've decided that

THIS

is going to be my next acquisition.

Sub MOA out of the box???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw those, look interesting. And you don't have to wait for the rifle to cycle.

I'll be getting it in 6.5 Creedmor. I've always been a fan of the 6.5 but the rifles built around it were either lame ( Arisaka, Caracno, or Swede) or barrel burners (264 Win Mag.). The sole exception was the .256 Newton and there are no 'off the shelf' cartridges available and if you mentioned the chambering to most they'd give you the 200 yd, combat stare.

At the 3 gun matches I noticed that the hit/shot fell significantly off beyond 150 yds. My thought on that is that they took more time to re-engage than the speed of their auto-loaders bought them. Depending on the course of fire I think that there is no disadvantage to a bolt gun.

6.5 to 7 mm might suit me.

I like the 7 too. I have a .280 Improved built up on an old Mauser (Brno) action that is excellent at long range. But I built it primarily as a hunting rifle. While I truly like the rifle (well it's custom built and I built it) it lacks the versatility of the Ruger offering.

I doubt I'd be shooting any competition with it.

Which brings us back to sub-MOA out of the box. Still meat on the table.

Yup. I would still like to semi-retire the .338WM for anything less than a moose or where big brown and ugly is a factor.

I have a Ruger .338WM I use when Elk hunting. A little over-kill......but no suffering.

I have a few 'woods' rifles but my most productive is an old Marlin 336 in .35 Rem. Insta-kill up to 100 yds.

Definitely made me more comfortable hunting blacktail on Admiralty Island.

The most productive rifle that I have used was an 8x57 Mauser, moderately sporterized. Some asshole caregiver stole it from my father when he would not sell it to him.

*chuckle* I've got 3 Mauser rifles. The .280 I already mentioned. A 25-06 I built on a La Corona Mauser action and a 1917 Wafenfabrik in 8x57. Like yours it was semi-sporterized. bent bolt and the extreme military fore-stock removed. But it has the original irons calibrated out to 1700m. And as far as I can tell if you use the original loadings and have a sharp enough eyesight, it will shoot it.

I keep threatening to re-barrel and re-stock it. Then I go out and shoot the damn thing and forget all about any building project.

A great gun for moose at 200 yards or less, in my opinion. Many ended up in the freezer.

Just great guns. I wouldn't hesitate out to 300. One of the reasons I bought the .338. I do like the cartridge, but I was expecting results a little more dramatic than the 8x57 offered.

The .338WM with 210 Noslers has served me well for moose and caribou. I keep keep 250s in the mag when walking through the alders. Just to feel better.

A little uncertainty is good for a man. *chuckle*

The first movie was pretty good but the second move just sucked because it made no sense that his hammer is so heavy but he can just hang it from a coat hook the hulk couldnt pick the hammer up but it can stay on a coat hook learn about gravity dumbasses

I just picked up another 870. 28" barrel, vent rib, walnut stock......new.

Going to take it 'tactical' off the bat. All bolt -on shit anyway. If nothing else I'm going to give the auto-loading boys a run for their money at 3 gun. They don't think about the time they lose when they miss.
