thomas edison was a bit of a cunt really.

Most driven people I have known seem to have more than a touch of cunt in them.

didn't watch the clip because i've seen it before. once was enough :(

you know the story behind this?

I have a decent handle on how AC works.

It's DC that confuzzles me, and cars are DC, so I'm having to research it . . .

and I don't really want to, but I need to.

poor tesla - i have a thing for him

when i say a thing, i mean a poem. *blinks*
Of course.

80 year old prospect Tommy Edison takes out the legendary Ty Cobb:

Limited range in the field kept him from making the team, though.

---

the difference between Edison and Tesla
was not only in their intelligence and methodology of scientific experimentation
BUT Edison would not allow anyone but HIS name on a patent, in my book that made him a thief. But then that's the American way...

Whereas in Tesla's lab if you had an idea that would actual produce your name and his would be on that patent. He wasn't in it for just the money, there are secrets of the Universe he needed to know.

If you don't like Edison, turn off the lights and sit in the dark.

Tesla even worked for Edison when he came to the US, promised $50k if he could improve Edison's DC generators...he pulled it off and Edison stiffed him the $50k saying he was just joking. Tesla eventually caught the attention of George Westinghouse thus starting the AC-DC war with the AC system eventually winning due to transmission issues. DC would have required generating stations almost every mile because of conductivity.

So basically everything that runs on AC, you can thank tesla for.

Tommy was promoting DC. Nikoka was the man who pioneered the power for your lights.

It's the difference between algebra and calculus. Edison could not accept that power could be transmitted when the voltage dropped to zero.

Tesla had the advantage of a university education, while Edison was basically self taught.

Another Mike Yates thread?

DC generator stations would have to be much closer than that. Edison envisioned a generator in the basement of every building, much like a furnace boiler. The lights on the 10th floor would be noticeably dimmer than the 1st floor.

dude!
one was a brilliant loony
the other was a brilliant egotist...

the elephant gag
was all about a more efficient electric chair!

there's brilliant creepiness abound
in the promotion of that alone.

It was an uncivilized age, learning, developing and killing.
