. The eventual Democrat Party goal is to have people pay Social Security taxes on every penny they earn … no matter how much that is. There will no comparable increase in benefits for the high income earners. The extra money will be used to keep the Democratic middle and low-income constituency happy.

Perhaps we should rely on the trickle down theory.....

There are two basic reasons the Democrats are working so hard for complete government control of this huge segment of our economy. One, of course, is power. Health care comprises about 15% of our national economy. If the government can seize control of this large a segment of our economy a giant step toward a socialist economy will have been achieved. The second reason is control.

Perhaps you have no experience with the disparity in healthcare services in this nation. Preventive and routine healthcare to all vs. lower income folks waiting til they're so sick they need specialized services they can't get access to, or afford. Then the state pays, or the docs raise their fees to cover their charity cases. No facts to quote....just experience. We need a solution....single payer makes sense. Converting will be the challenge and of course it will have problems to work out.

The Democrats will simply pass laws requiring fund managers to invest in corporations building low income housing; or companies who are hiring workers off welfare roles. Other "allowed" investments will be in such things as environmental protection, waste recycling and other causes popular with the left.

And this is bad? Damn, those CEO's need their big salaries though. So they can trickle down.

Right now the Family Leave Act requires employers to give employees about 12 weeks of unpaid “family leave” to take care of certain family events and emergencies, such as having a baby, illness, death or some other situation. The key here is that the family leave is unpaid. The Democrats want employers to continue to pay the employees while they take their extended vacation.

Yes, employers would need to plan on this, and hopefully smaller businesses would get some federal assistance. Just reeks of family values, doesn't it? They should just quit their jobs and go on welfare, ya think?

BTW, I work my ass off to live comfortable but I don't begrudge a penny of my taxes that go to those less fortunate.

As for the games politicians play, it comes from both sides doesn't it? And that was a very neutral site, wasn't it?

I've got a question about this 15% of our 401K (403b in my case) "tax". Don't you pay income taxes on the money once you're finally retired and need to use it to live on? Isn't taking 15% now on the balance having their cake and eating it too (when you pay the income tax after 65)?

Also, if they did make the 401K's "invest" in government programs (low income housing was mentioned) how many would stop investing? I know I'd think twice about it. I might just have to put the money in a bank instead, or hide it in my mattress.

as long as we continue to try and distill every minute issue down to conservative vs. liberal little will get accomplished and both parties will suffer. essentially, both parties have good ideas. the problem, however, lies in the fact that some are so intent on backing their party that the begin to see themselves as infallable and the others as inately wrong.

there are more inportant things to quibble about than party alignment.

Just a point of history, Reagan's nominee for the Court was Robert H. Bork. Although portrayd as a "radical nut" by the left he is generally regarded as one of the finest constitutional scholars of our time. We certainly wouldn't want someone who understood the constitution on the bench, would we?
