But I did something stupid. I posted a story in gay male called the monkey and the cat I didn't mention that it was a chapter in a series of stories . The first in the series was 'Panama, the First Stop. The second in the series was "Panama, the Canal Zone'. And now the third in the series 'The Monkey and the Cat'.

Who do I talk to in order to have them listed in the 'series' section of the story index?

thanks for any help you have to offer.

I'd say you should send Laurel a PM and explain it.

You can also rename the stories with a new title, chapter x, and use the old titles as the description.

That's what I'd do. Set them up as chapters of a series through a title edit. They do run right into each other.

Giving them the same starting title is the only way to do it, currently. The series coding is automated, and to the best of my knowledge, can't yet be overridden with manual changes.

Panama: XXXX

And if you are lucky, you could just ask Laurel in a PM to make the changes for you, and not have to go through the whole submission process, not going to say it will work, but it may be something she can handle quickly. If you want them lined up Chronologically, then add Panama 1: - xxx, etc.

If you add a number to the title to designate the series order, and don't want it to have "ch." appended, you need to specifically say that in the "notes" section of the submission when you do the edit.

Any numbers are automatically changed to "ch." as a standard operating procedure without special instructions otherwise.

Really? One of my titles in the Halloween contest was "3 for Poe." I didn't put anything in the notes box and it posted as sent.

Within reason *laugh* The "3" in yours was obviously part of the title, and not any sort of chronological indicator.

The change is one that Laurel makes manually, not anything that's done in an automated fashion. She explained it to me when I asked about it on my Arts Ardane series.

Have series been changed recently then? I always remember back in the day finding rogue chapters of a series in a different section to the rest, where it has clearly strayed into a different subject area. Is there a mechanic to make sure all series stay together now?

"Series" as Lit treats it right now is actually "numbered stories"

So long as it has the same title with numbers, it's treated as a series, and category is ignored.

Actually, it's a certain degree of similarity in the first word(s), because the automated coding caught my "prelude" and "epilogue" chapters of Danica and properly grouped them along with the numbered chapters.

Ah okay. So now when witing a series I guess you have to be quite careful about what category you want to put it in at the start. If you have a story that starts off in chapter 1 as a regular EC, but you know it will end up morphing into mostly a BDSM story you should submit it to BDSM? Won't it get automatically changed by the proofreaders?

This is good to know! Thanks bunches. :D

Chaptered stories that cross genres are always a problem. Stories that skip around categories typically don't perform as well as one that sticks to a single category.

However, a story that has an opening chapter that doesn't get directly to the heart of a category may very well get panned and ignored as well.

You also have to consider "trump" content. BDSM, Incest, Non-Con, etc. can be impossible to insert into other categories without provoking strong negative reactions from the readership, even if part of a larger theme such as Mature or Interracial.

A chapter that doesn't have any BDSM content is very likely to be moved to another category. The "trump" works both ways. You could probably use the "notes" section to indicate that the overall story fits the category. It would be even better if you submit multiple chapters so you can point to the following chapters that actually contain the content suited for the category.

No matter what, it's probably going to be a rough ride if you have any sort of "trump" content in the story and cross genres.

When I've run chapter stories jumping genres, (Ex. Senatorial Secrets) I made sure at the top of the story I give a brief explanation of what the story contains in regards to sex. I had one that had gay male interaction, but it wasn't the focus of the story, they allowed me to keep it in Non-erotic and it did well there.

thanks for all the suggestions

I think I am going with the PM to Laurel first, then I will try editing the title.
thanks for the help
