Today I over heard one of my R.N.'s talking with another. She told the other that she was pregnant. She just got married.

This is the R.N. I call South Beach Barbie. She seems to be one of the most self centered people I have ever dealt with. Needless to say we don't get along.

I turned to her and asked her point blank if this was what she truly wanted. (It seemed a strange thing for her to want with her body consciousness.) She told me that it was, that she truly wanted a child. I then surprised her by telling her that I was happy for her, and that from this time forward I would not allow her to do any lifting or anything else that would endanger her or her child. This seemed to surprise her, although it shouldn't have as I have told others on my unit the same thing before this. She was silent for a bit as I walked away.

Later in the day she came over and asked me about it. I informed her that I would not allow her to risk her or her babies health, and that if this was truly what she wanted then she had my utmost in support as well as my congradulations. She walked away with a truly onfused look on her face.

A short while later she came up to me at the Nurses Station. She didn't say anything at first, she just gave me a hug. Then she told me that she hadn't thought I would care.

Yes I do care. We may not get along but I will not allow one of my co-workers to injure themselves.

Oh and getting hugged by her is a treat. ;)
