As I was sitting at the computer earlier I started smelling smoke, wood smoke to be precise. At first it was just a hint but it grew stronger and had a strange tang to it. It smelled like a brushfire to me and that is something we really don't need in our park. The trailers are too close together.
I headed out side and started looking around while heading upwind. After a bit I started seeing smoke. Greyish white smoke coming from a cluster of trees surrounded by older trailers. I headed over and found the source of the smoke. A guy there was burning the Butt Ends of several Palm Fronds as well as some Coconut Husks in his Barrel Grill. (He told me he had run out of Charcoal and was doing this so he could cook dinner.)
SHaking my head I headed for home. I was a bit surprised that no one else had come to investigate, then I thought about it. I seem to be the only one in my park with their windows open, everyone else is buttoned up tight with their A/C's on.
It was only after I had been back home for about 15 minutes that I heard sirens. I couldn't believe it. I listened as the sirens came closer then went past. I listened as several more units rolled past on either side of the park. As I sat there listening I could hear them moving around and quickly recognised what they were doing. They were running a search pattern on the local streets trying to find the source of the smoke. Someone had finally smelled the smoke and called it in, too bad the fire had already burned down.
I wonder how many of my neighbors would have noticed before it was too late if it had been a real brush fire.

Yes I did call the fire department and tell them to cancel the search and explained what it had been.
