I had this very odd idea for a story. A man enjoys reading erotica online (relatable) and one day stumbles onto a very strange story. It's about a woman cheating on her husband, a topic he usually enjoys reading about. The problem? The woman in the story shares the same name as his wife and the physical attributes matches her pretty damn well, too. The story is coming out in installments and he begins to read them as they come out, wondering more and more, is this story about his actual wife?

The set up leaves the story able to go in many directions. Does he end up confronting her? Does he keep it his own little secret, reading and jerking off to each new installment or having sex with his wife while thinking about the woman in the story? Does he become so convinced it is his wife that he decides to cheat as well, without even confronting his wife about it?

The premise also lends itself to an entire possible universe of tales. Maybe the author of the in-world story or the site where the story lives carries through multiple tales, each about a person discovering a story that eerily resembles a person they know: a sister that reads a story about a brother with feelings for his sibling, who masturbates to her regularly, cums in her panties, etc; wife that reads a story about a husband that cums in everything his wife (or daughter if want to go incest) eats; a guy that reads about a girl resembling his crush who is secretly a closeted lesbian.

Obviously, the wife is writing those stories, but they are pure fiction, or rather, alternative reality close to current as it can get but with that invented side relationship. The target character of with can even be real, but clueless.

Hey, maybe...

The guy doesn't want to confront his wife over what seems ligt insanity (and maybe he's even ashamed to admit he's reading such), however, he identifies her wife's alleged lover and attemt to confront him, but doesn't spell it directly. The guy knows the wife, and find her sexy and doesn't definitely deny anything. They start taking about his wife and... long story short, eventually enable and enact the wife's fantasy.

apparently I'm not the only one thinking "meta" for a LW story, but this differs substantially from mine.

I agree that the wife as author is a great angle, from which it could go in many direction.

Just beware the tentacle monsters.

Another possible twist

A very prim and proper middle aged divorced mother of two adult children, has a dirty little secret. Every night she goes to bed early in order to write a series of wild pornographic sex stories about a middle aged mother having incestuous relationships with two adult children. Her descriptions of the mother and children mirror the descriptions of her and her two adult children. She even describes friends of her children in her stories, using slight variations of their real names, but still close enough for someone to figure out if they read the stories. She uses the stories for her own perverse pleasure, but wishes that she had the guts to post them online for the world to read. One night, after having a few too many glasses of wine, she posts the stories onto a sex story site before falling asleep. She doesn’t know that her twenty year old son is a frequent visitor to the same site. Imagine his surprise when he starts reading the newest story and recognizes his mother, himself, and his 18 year old sister in the story. What happens when he shows his sister?

See my piece, What Is Cheating? To cheat means to vary from you and your partner's (or partners') implicit or explicit rules. If pr0n-devouring, or family-fucking, or group masturbations aren't on the proscribed list, go for it. Don't get caught.

it ain't cheatin' if you don't get caught....

(just kidding, but I think a potential story theme)

Taking the title literally (or at least my first reading of it),

what if...

The stories the faithful husband is reading appears to be written by his wife, but describe him cheating with a woman he knows.
