I've been following a story in the local news today about a motorcyclist hit and killed not too far north of us.

Now I know both the stretch of road the accident happened on as well as the bike involved in the accident.

That stretch of road is straight for almost ten miles. The few hills on this road are low. The road is also three lanes wide. (The motorcyclist was traveling in the center lane.)

The motorcycle involved in the accident is one I have seen several times and admired. What I admired most about it was the modifications the owner had done to it's lights. He had mounted two high intensity lights to the Engine Bars and upped the wattage of the headlight. Seeing this bike coming down the road at night put me in mind of seeing a Train Engine. We're talking it put out a lot of light.

Now the reports about this accident state that the Pick Up driver had stopped in at a convenience store as he does every morning for a cup of coffee on his way to work. He stated that when he left the store he had checked the traffic and hadn't seen any cars. He even told the reporter that he had answered a call from work as he left the parking lot. He said he never saw the bike before it hit him in the drivers side door.

Now the last report I saw stated that there are no charges pending in the accident.

Excuse me? The guy is driving distracted, (Talking on a cell phone) and kills someone and no charges are pending? Oh wait a minute, it was just a motorcyclist killed right?

That so sucks! That should not have been allowed to happen. He kills someone and there are no charges!

Sorry, Cat, but there are only 11 states int he union with laws restricting the use of cell phones while driving. I do not believe Florida is one of them. Sadly, Oregon, where I live, IS one of them, but the law is rarely enforced. :(

I agree. Up here in Canada ( I live in Alberta), It's illegal for someone to drive while on a cell phone. I honestly think there should be charges laid. Instead of being on a phone and chatting to whomever, he should of said " I'll call you back, I'm on the road." Regardless on who's on the other line.

Shame on the company the driver works for too! If the driver said " I'll call back", they should respect that their co-worker is being responsible. A terrible call on both company, and driver.

Sorry for the motorcyclist's loss. I hope justice gets rightfully served.:rose:

(( I understand that what I am explaining isn't what really happened, but I can only assume that this scenario would of panned out if the driver had taken responsibility. Sorry for any confusion.))

I'll betcha it is around Coburg--they're always looking for something to augment the speeding ticket game.

My brother-in-law was killed on a motorcycle.

In a contest with a car or truck the bike always loses. Always.
