So, little stupid is 16 years old and now just pees whenever and wherever it strikes her.

At that age, can I get her to pee on a pad?

From a long-timer...

It'd be better if you just released her from your basement, and let her get back to her family. :(

Hey hey hey, I like dolf's threads. She posts interesting questions on weird things Americans do.

Have you had her checked over? Water infections can cause this, or if she's spayed it might be hormonal, etc. Some things are easily treated.

If its just old age, you can try a puppy pad in each room, but if you have other dogs they'll probably start using them too. Diapers?

I don't think you can diaper a dachshund.
I might be at the pad stage though.

Something has to give.
The only good thing about this is that I have plans to replace the carpet with hardwood.

I do have another dog, but she is a year older and still in control.
The little one is peeing every 45 minutes to an hour,
but never for much longer; drives me crazy.

I looked, and amazon has extra small, washable dog diapers. After the initial outlay, it's probably cheaper than pads.

That's a lot of pissing! I'd definitely get that tested. Is she drinking lots?

Don't be a cunt. It's about their quality of life, not your quality of carpet.

Seeing as how the OP refers to his pet as "little stupid" and lacks the common sense to take the logical steps to address an aged dogs frequent urination, resulting in obvious frustration and irritation that undoubtably is directed at "little stupid", maybe painless euthanization would be the compassionate thing to do.

Dachshunds are notorious for having back and neck issues, along with knee problems. A sixteen year old dachshund in the care of a moron is very likely suffering.

My suggestion would be for someone who knows the owner to call animal protection.

My pedigree poodle used to answer to stupid. And to schmuck.
Edward answers to fathead and arsehole.
I've yet to own a dog who didn't learn what fuck off means.

It's a dog. It doesn't get butthurt over language.

As for your other points, a lot of people assume incontinence is an inevitable part of the aging process. People assume that on their own incontinence!
A breed being prone to illnesses and injuries doesn't necessarily mean an individual dog will be suffering, and aches and pains don't necessarily mean no quality of life.

He may be a good owner or he may be a terrible one, but I suspect your opinion on the matter was decided more on personal dislike than objective evidence.

Was I that obvious???

LMFAO

I stand by my assessment of the "owner" however.

*nods*

She doesn't seem to be drinking an inordinate amount and in the late afternoon,
and this feels kind of cruel, but I have been cutting them off from food and water.

They don't really move around much anymore, so I don't think that I am hurting them.

I am a good owner.

A bad owner would have had the dogs put down despite years of
faithful service and companionship; how I refer to them is irrelevant,
it just paints a picture and anyone who has ever owned one of the
stubborn little shits would understand the nomenclature 100%.

You can give a dachshund a command and then literally watch
while it slowly decides if it is going to obey, or not!

Maybe get the dog tested for diabetes. That can make them pee a bunch.

I call the little cat Little Shit. He's old, he doesn't care, he's always welcome no matter how annoying/inconvenient - he's sitting on me right now. And he's smarter than most Litsters.

Many of whom I'd put down happily . . . .

~~ tee hee ~~

They were just at the vet and no answers.
Big stupid, on a scale of 1 to 6 is at a 5
when it comes to how bad her heart is.

She could go at any time now.
I'll miss her.

Little stupid, not so much;
that is one obnoxious little dog...

Larry is a Catahoula - supposedly a difficult breed to train. But I've had dogs all my life, and Larry is by far the best and easiest to train I've ever had.

It's not me, it's him.

Dogs do have personalities although

I always enjoy a good montage of dogs and owners who resemble each other.
