On the other hand, the few times I've wanted to transplant a scene from one story to another I found it entirely easier to just rewrite it from scrath to make it fit better. However, I suppose it is still useful to keep the old copy for reference in that case too.

And yes, I keep everything, and always make a copy before splitting into different directional ideas.

That's right. There is no way I could take this piece of Sci-Fi and insert anyplace. But the idea will survive the demolition
