This may not be the most...

*cough* As much as I love getting PMs, I do sometimes wish that people could leave me a comment on my pic threads in addition to PMing me. Like a reply to say "hey I like them" and a PM to have a more personal conversation or something. I guess some people are just afraid to post or something? Who knows...

Have always wondered that.

To be honest, it always makes me feel awkward because .. it's kind of like the whole "don't want to be seen in public with you" sort of feel when they go the backroom way with the PMs.

I think that's what it is exactly. That's happened with me on a few occassions, both here and on the GB.

I tend to get lots of pm's from people who "lurk" on the site and never post, which surprises me. Why are you hesitant to post in a thread but not personally confront a person?

i dont like when people just lurk...if you are going to look take a second and shoot a hey good job or whatever...if too many people visit and dont comment then i think there are all those out there who dont like what they see so i tend to post fewer....also( a curtesyquestion because i'm not sure) is it right for those who have threads and take the time to post on other peoples threads to expect some comments in return?

I think some are just shy. Having spent most of my time on lit on the GB, it's easy to see why people don't post if they don't have a thick skin. Somedays I don't feel like posting and then dealing with the crap and the drama on that board.

As for your question, it's a good one. When someone takes the time to post in my thread, I will go check out theirs if they have one and say hello.

i agree...it does take a thicker skin to post, especially in the GB.

Thanks, i was hoping someone would agree!

I think my absolute "favorite" PMs are those that you can tell are completely generic, cut and paste sort of thing that they likely sent off to 20 different people at one time. I even called someone out when he sent me the exact same PM like three days apart. His reply? "I only send it to girls like you that get me hot" or something like that. Some people surely do not learn.

So I think that may be an answer as to why they PM but don't post. It's likely they're messaging as many people as possible in hopes that SOMEone will reply. If someone PMs me saying they like my pictures, they better be specific so I know they actually did look at the pictures!

*small rant over*

How sad that people would need to do that. I've heard similar statements by some of my female friends here.

I often tell myself the same thing, but some of my friends on lit only post there, so...*shrugs.*

PC thread, but I have a question.
Who here dosen't like/hates when people do not take the time to post their thoughts on your thread, but take the time to PM you only?
I recently got one from some some random guy with a really low postcount
it was prety gibberish but the jist seemed to be cyber

thankfully thats the only one I've gotten so far

I found it entertaining and replied back with a "...Wha?"
:D

but I guess its worse for you girls and your goodies than for some random fat guy like me eh

What I don't like is when you take the time to post in someones thread and the host responds to everyones elses posts and not mine...don't know why that happens but it happens to me WAYYY to much...that's the kind of thing that is gonna make me go back to being a lurker. :(

Ugh, YES!!! I also hate it when "Virgins" PM me. I don't mean the people that JUST joined and are on their way with like 11 posts... I mean the people that have been here for like over a year and have no posts at all. It makes me feel like they're stalking me or something... just someone in the shadows saying I look good...... creepy

Yep, that's what I do, too. It's the same thing as someone smiling at you in public and you don't smile back - I think it's pretty rude, so I make sure that I always do that.

Agreed, I hated that place once I made myself leave there. It's amazing that there can be such different groups of people on the different forums here. It's like being in rooms labeled, "Sarcastic Assholes", "Decent People", "People That Give Positive Feedback", "Those That Help You Out", etc. Kinda cool, but still amazing that people can be so different.

I actually try to post both in the public eye and the private arena. Somethings I don't mind everyone seeing, but when I want to hold a private conversation, I go to PMs.

As someone who lurks, and seldoms posts, I can give you a couple of thoughts:

1. I don't have much time to stay 'on-line' in and current on the board. Too often when I see a thread that catches my interest, it's several days old and my responses will have lost their relevance.

2. I am not a big fan of 'me too' replies, so my post count stays low.

3. It takes much more time to contruct and type an intelligent response that it does to read. In the type I'm taking to type this, I could have read several other threads and admired a few pictures. This is a selfish attitude because, if everyone did this, the board would really suck. But, time is scarce and valuable.

As I result of my lurker status, I do not often PM anyone because, as several have observed, it may seem a little creepy.

Maybe I need a sig line: "I lurk, therfore I am not."
