This could actually make American football interesting.

Not going to happen. QBs the league over will be up in arms about how the ball feels 'different' with a cam in it.

They will do whatever the fuck they're told to do because the TV people pay their wages.

I think they will give it aq trial in any case. They are dependent on TV revenue and are pretty well state of the art with broadcast technology. Once word gets out that it is around rans are going to demand a look see.

I am already afraid of what sort of touchdown dance someone will come up with using the camera as a prop, but am interested to see what it's like to be spiked.

Not sure you could build a sturdy enough camera to cope with having the shit kicked out of it for 90+ minutes.

The problem is really the same in both sports, however. By the time TV fans saw the ball going through scores of rotations through 360+ degrees of space they would be upchucking their beers and nachos all over their $1,500 HDTVs.

Also, in "real" football (i.e. American), I don't particularly want a close up view of the center/QB exchange.

That's the whole point of the original link, the camera compensates for rotation and you get a steady ball's eye view. The tech is kinda cool.

The tech is cool. It also stated that it takes a few minutes for it to be processed so you can see the throw. Not that it can't be improved.

We'll see this in football eventually.

Only place to put the camera would be in one of the ends (or both to balance out the ball). It's the only position from which you'd see the ball fall into the WR's hands.

Plus, it would have to be indestructible to handle the weight bearing down on it in a pile and during FGs/extra point attempts punts/kickoffs.

Seems to be much ado for what would basically be a replay angle.

Then again, people love watching the nose-feed of missiles about to it their targets.

I think it's almost inevitable that we'll see something like this relatively soon. TV are always looking for a new gimmick to entertain the masses.

I heard they are thinking of making the field larger too.

Big, like the real men play on in the CFL.

Ninety percent of technology is crap that is created solely because it can be flogged onto hapless dupes suffering from a pathological need to believe they're different. They eventually go broke or learn that gee-wizardry is rarely what it's cracked up to be.
