It used to be about:
I have a thought, I wonder what other’s think of that thought. Perhaps if I had greater reaction to my thought… I’d more better understand the thought itself.
And in doing that, there was a germane process of ascending benefit that took place. A ‘plurality’ that hadn’t quite yet been defined. Some sort of multiplier, not yet identified as a tool.
But then it became:
I need to throw something out there, that generates response - so I can be popular. Whatever it takes to keep that train rolling. Insight a response of some kind. That wins.
The thought doesn’t matter. Only the response does.
The BB was fucking bombarded with non-stop HEADLINES. It became more difficult to find a thread worth reading. You couldn’t trust the headline. Maybe only the user. Which only reinforced the idea that inflating your ‘popularity’ would result in more substantial interaction.
Then MeSpace hit (who’s interface was infantile). Then FaceMe. And of course TwitterMeEndlessly.
I’m sitting here thinking, right now,
I don’t want to broadcast myself, from a PAGE where all must come cuz I am all important. I want to GO to a place, where other shit is happening and I can find things in there that may… invigorate, or add some things I ain’t thought about yet.
THIS, is not the place anymore.
I’m truly surprised how stale this board is. Shit just sits there now. No one’s even fighting for headlines. It’s just… der, don’t you have yer own page?
And I don’t have my own page anymore cuz none of that other media afforded (or encouraged) the kind of interaction I’m looking for (namely, long-winded shit that no one has time to consume). So I have no place to go when I feel like fucking around without throwing 40bucks at a Bar and being called tall a lot; where I won’t find anyone interesting at all and just go home disappointed by thin people for the zillionth time.
And THAT means – there’s a market for it.
Facebook is made.
Twitter is made.
Some other form of them may be invented, or they’ll stick around.
Where’s the invention of what THIS used to be?
Yo, American genius wondering what to do with yer smarts?
Invent an online social gathering place that supports the idea of a GATHERING – as opposed to an individual game of tag.
Do it right.
And win.
