Thirty-seven hours

2006 we lost power for 24 hours. Some people were without power for weeks. First snowfall of the year; four feet in 18 hours. The day before I was taking pictures of a Doe looking about me through the leaves of a tree. It was an experience. Made me very happy I burn wood for heat. It was pretty easy considering some of the serious catastrophes going on in the word. Hurricanes and Tidal Waves scare me to death. I'll take the snow and a freezer full of moose any day.

How do you keep the moose from eating all the vegetables in the freezer. ;)

Thoughts and prayers for the people in Great Smoky Nat'l Park. My recollection of that area is that it's very wild.

I used to fly fish the creek at Abrams Campground where one of the two fatalities was. It is indeed very wild and on the less visited side of the park.

What we had down here last night was 70mph straight line winds out in front of a severe thunderstorm. There was little to no warning and trees went down all over the place. I was without power for 6 hours some are still out.

They are still searching the back country campsites for anyone still in the park that may have been hit. One death was a tree falling on a family in a swimming hole at the campground. The woman was trapped underwater by the tree, her husband and daughter had severe injuries and had to be airlifted out. The second was a man on a motorcycle a tree fell on him as he rode down Little River Road.

Cades Cove was hit hard too with several injuries. That is where the old homestead of my mothers family is. I have to wonder if the old log cabin made it.
