I just heard something and I'm not sure if it's true - apparently Obama spontaneously re-took his Presidential Oath in the White House yesterday, after many people said that it wasn't done right on the day. Only problem was - there was no bible around... does this mean he's going to do it again???

What's going on? is this all a big hoax?

He did do the oath again. Some screw up over the word "faithfully" and its position in a sentence.

It has to be done correctly to be in force. No big deal, it's the 3rd time it's happened.

There is no requirement for a bible. That is an addition of tradition, not a requirement of the oath.

A bible is not actually necessary to the oath taking. Not all presidents have used them. The oath was retaken because it is one of the few that MUST be stated and repeated verbatim.

Got a thread on the 2nd time here, V. The report quoted gives all the details and answers to your questions, including the fact that no Bible is required. There have been presidents in the past who stumbled over the oath and had to take it again (i.e., Obama's not the first) and also presidents who either used no Bible or had none available (like V.P.'s who had to be sworn in fast because the president just died). Perfectly legit.
