Think of 10 - A writing exercise

This could be a bit of fun, and a way to get our creative juices flowing. If we need to get them flowing, that is. ;)

Write down the first ten words that come to mind. Then write brief definitions and/or explanations of why you thought of these words.

Gonna go do mine now...

Lou

My ten...

1. Wood – This is the first thing I saw when I looked up. More specifically, it’s a wooden beam on the ceiling of my living room. The word “wood” also brought something else to mind, but that’s a different story.

2. Shoe – I looked down and saw my shoe. It is white, has laces and is very comfortable for running in. I should really go and take them off.

3. Vision – Trying to think of words that come to mind, when asked to do so is tougher than I thought. That sounds daft, because if I had literally written down the first ten words that came to mind, they’d be something this: “what” “can” “I” “think” “of” “this” “is” “silly” “can’t” “think”. Anyway, that seemed incredibly boring, so I automatically thought about what I could see, then the word “vision” popped into mind.

4. Hair – I sat back in my chair, deep in thought, and ran my fingers through my hair. It made me think of how my hair felt, and how much I love to play with my hair.

5. Tired – How I am feeling right now. My eyes feel heavy and I keep yawning. Maybe I need to go outside for some fresh air.

6. Fingers – As I typed out the previous words in this list, I looked at my fingers clicking away at the keyboard, and that word popped into my head. My fingers are long and slender, and I keep my fingernails looking good. They are great to tickle with.

7. Blank – That was it, my mind went blank. I couldn’t think of anything else. Then I thought, what the heck, blank it is, and blank it shall be.

8. Sensations – I then got to think about certain sensations my body was feeling. I’m a little thirsty, although I do have a cup of tea here. I’m hungry, but there’s some chicken in the oven. I could feel my legs pressing against the chair I’m sitting in, and my arms resting on the desk. I also realised I needed a pee.

9. Time – I looked up at the clock and realised I’d better hurry up and get this done. I have to get on with cooking dinner.

10. Drink – My final word, and my reward for completing this. I nice, sweet, hot cup of tea.

I might try and add a second part to this challenge and write a very short story (under 750 words) containing all ten of those words. That will be something for another day for me!

So I skipped a step <g>

No paper at hand, and I always suck at these sort of spontaneous word association type things...so I decided to write from your list instead...hehehe

**********

"Where have you been?", Karen asked me. Uh oh, I thought, hearing how pissed she was. I looked at her. She stood in the slinkiest dress I think she owned. Brown hair, partially braided and pulled back, shone in the yellow glow of the fireplace in the other room.

I tried to think of something to say. It was hard to think with her shoe tapping impatiently upon the wood floor, and I was tired. Work had been crazy. The drive home from work had been even crazier.

I opened my mouth just as she snapped her fingers. "Come on, come on...out with it. You went for a drink after work with those friends of yours, didn't you?"

My mind went blank.

"Do you have any idea what time it is?"

I stared at her and shook my head. "Time to remind you how things work.", I said as I slipped my coat off and dropped it on a short bench along the wall. Karen gave me a look and raised an eyebrow. She made to turn away and I caught her by the wrist.

"Ow, let go, Frank!", she whined.

"Not just yet.", I told her as I pulled her in close and grabbed her hair with my other hand. Holding her head tight and steady, I leaned in and kissed her roughly. Karen struggled for a moment, but I tightened both my holds and she made a soft noise into my mouth...somewhere between a moan and a whimper.

I opened my mouth more and she responded by sharing her tongue with me. I brought her captured wrist up to my neck and released it. She brought her other arm up to join it and hooked her hands behind my shoulders. I stepped back and joined my coat on the bench, lifting Karen onto my lap. Her dress hiked itself up her thighs and bunched about her hips, letting me feel her bare flesh when I moved my hand around to caress her ass.

Hmm, I love that sensation. We kissed a bit more, then I broke off to nibble at her ear. "Sorry. Have I told you what a vision you are when you're angry?"

That was very cool, Remec!

Great little story, for such few words. I was also able to relate to it pretty well. ;)

I had to hunt out those ten words, but they were all there. I haven't done mine yet. Been slacking. Well, not really, got three stories on the go at the moment.

Lou :rose:

Car: My car is a piece of shit and I need to be out working on it; it's the first nice day we've had since like December or November.

Girlfriend: I love her dearly. She's not very far from the surface of thoughs...ever.

Ex-girlfriend: She's visitng the current one (they were college friends) and things are getting very sticky for me....and not in a good way.

Leather: I do leather work...nothing extravagent or kinky, but I wanted to do some today.

Diablo: Diablo 2 is the current game of choice for the computer and I've been playing it a lot lately.

Cat: Don't know why. It's just there.

Food: My stomach is empty and I need some. Cooking will progress after this post.

Move: I am moving at the end of the week and I am looking very much forward to it.

Time. At the time of this post, there's 174 hours until I never have to set foot in this fucking state again. Ever.

Danish-Bastard: the funnest card game on earth. I'll be playing a lot of it when I'm home, and drinking copious amounts of booze while doing so

There's my 10. I'm sure there's a story in there somewhere, whether it's mundane, erotic, or all up porn.

1. Math--I start teaching math on monday...that's kind of perpetually on my mind right now
2. Sugar--I want some
3. Sex--I want some
4. Book---Where is my book?
5. Fun---I had fun tonight at a regional production of "Cabaret"
6. Watch--I just looked at it

---dr.M.

P.S. 'dock' sholuld have been 'dick' but I don't like that word and so I changed it.

Pith - My dad drilled in small words into my head so I have endless supply of monosyllabic words stuck in my head.

Rage - Hmm... I could go on about this one, I guess.

Gate - Cutting sound out at a certain attenuation? I don't think you guys have the foggiest clue what I am talking about so I'm not gonna bother.

Tiger - Hmm... I don't know. Possibly some co-relation with the only Japanese word I know, "Arashi"

Phantom - Again, I don't know. It could be also due to the fact that my mind thinks in a rhythm and putting out words in a certain pattern outputs certain garble like this.

Rex - Hmm. No clue, again.

Plague - I would have saud what I had said in the previous word but I think there is something here that kinda sticks in my mind that holds me back but exposes possible tumult deep within.

Digital - Listenin' to music with lots of distortion. Mmmm...

Riser - A sound that gives the sense of rising, asccending, a sense of space as the frequencies climp up into the region of sound where humans cannot percieve it, only to be picked up again and have the cycle start all over again.

Trap - A word association with snare, which is a drum heard a lot in music.

Carpet
Red
Black
Phone
Longing
Friend
Lover
Distance
Cold
Walk

Carpet and red - I've got a red carpet that has been washed and dried, and is now waiting to get put back in its proper place in the livingroom.

Black phone - right next to my left hand.

Longing, friend, lover - I miss Hubby, and I wait for him to call me.

Distance - there's too much of it between him and me.

Cold walk - I took a little walk earlier today, and it was a little chilly outside.

I couldn't think of ten words, and I don't really like these kinds of exhersises, but I do love your AV's so I stopped in just to gawk at you again Tatelou.

As Always
I Am the
Dirt Man

*thinks*

Elephant - Listening to new White Stripes album *yeah*

Mascara - don't know why, I just like this word. Can't wear the stuff, it always runs!

gastronomy - Love food and anything to do with food. Yes, anything!

parkinson - wrinkled old TV host from Yorkshire (dunno where he came from... well, Yorkshire, obviously, but apart from that *coff*)

Welsh - previously listening to Gold Against the Soul by the Manic Street Preachers, who are.. um, Welsh.

desktop - wot I am staring blankly at rite now.

cats - x2, Spooky and Scully, sisters aged 7 and a half, currently sleeping on the heater on my landing.

principalities - a rank of angel. Just something I was reading about the other day and it came into my head for no good reason.

Suede - Sadie's favourite band. Brett Anderson watches from his picture on the wall above her desk *slurp*

burning - what I am doing to several CDs borrowed from the Audio Visual Library where I work, quite illicitly and without shame. *grin*

That's it. Coolies!!

Luv the pic Lou
