So is there something you didnt find out till *relatively* recently or at least a long time after everyone else seemed to know?

Is it funny- ie did your friends/ people around you laugh or look at you as though you came from Mars when you told them you had 'learned something new' ?

I ask because i  found out only yesterday that Sultanna's are just dried white grapes and that raisins are just dried red grapes !!!

I never knew before! i got looked at like a moron, but then my best friend was like 'i didnt know that either...' and so i felt better :D

neways...do tell :D

Also, what is continually amazing, is the things you learned in school, that are now known to be wrong.

In the 70's, electrons circled the nucleus. They don't.

The definition of man, was the tool user. Jane Goodall subsequently observed Chimps stripping leaves from sticks to put down termite wholes to gather termites as food. Recently, chimps were observed making spears for hunting.

The four food groups are some pyramid thingy now.

Alcohol killed braincells, now it's just malnitrition is prevalent in alcoholics.

There's a new ocean that I never heard about until last month.

I just today found out why industrial air conditioners have a certail steel angle frame under them (to hold up the roof metal decking), even though I have been drawing these frames for nearly a decade.

Took me a year to find the widshield washer fluid on my car...

I'm more in the "Things I didn't know 'til recently that I wish I still didn't know" place.

You mean like what's really in head cheese?

I didn't know what snow angels were until I met Abs.

Had you ever been around snow before? If not, that would explain why.

lol, electrons circled the nucleus in the 90's too. :p

I'm wondering what they do now...
(I grew up in the 80s)
Vibrate in a 10th dimension quantum field of possibilities, or something freaky like that.

When the fuck did this happen!?!? I was only out of work for a few months. :D :D

You mean are that bullshit I had to go through for calculating the energy of a 1s electron of a hydrogen atom in quantum mechanics was for nothing?

It took me two months to learn that fucking equation and discuss it!

Well...I just now found out that my brother is, apparently, an electron.

Aren't electrons actually a "cloud" of particles instead of one single mass? I might be wrong.

I sorta knew this but I keep getting reminded every time I go out to the movies thinking that things will be different this time...that if you sit next to or downwind of talkative people before and during the previews, chances are they WILL talk during the movie and fuck up your viewing experience. And if you value your pleasure, get up and sit somewhere else before the show starts.

You're referring to the electron cloud theory. And Ted is probably referring to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. However, electrons do orbit the nucleus in discreet energy levels which tend to have certain geometries based on the energy level. But we can never be sure where exactly it is.

I just know what I learned is now wrong. I have not learned what is being taught now.

Per Wikipedia :

The orbital of each electron in an atom can be described by a wavefunction. Based on the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, the exact momentum and position of the actual electron cannot be simultaneously determined. This is a limitation which, in this instance, simply states that the more accurately we know a particle's position, the less accurately we can know its momentum, and vice versa.

Also, I learned Columbus discovered America and the Norse might have been here. Since then, archaeological evidence has proven the Norse were in North America.

MISTY! chemistry! i don't like you anymore *sulk*

~~
i learnt that if i did THAT...she'd involuntarily do THAT...;) didn't know THAT before :p

Psst, that's physics.

No, The atomic composition of the natural elements is Chemistry. The electronic charge and dispersion of charge is Physics- JUST. They were discussing how the electrons are distributed in an atom, therefore Chemistry. Chemists need to know that 'shell' structure of elements to know whether hey are volatile or inert, what they will bond with, what they take from or give to in order to create Ions...etc.

Besides, Misty is a Chemist.

watch me have that allll wrong.

I learned the next time I buy shampoo and mouthwash that I make sure they are different colours.

Close enough...well done grasshopper. ;)
