Why does my nice dishwasher take 3 hours and 15 minutes to clean my dishes, but only if I completely rinse them first?

Crock pots: When I first got married we got a crock pot for our wedding. It was the old kind that was one unit and it was a bite to clean. Then I ended up purchasing a crock pot, years later, where the ceramic insides came out and could be cleaned much easier. I didn't upgrade to the crock pot that has the nice brackets that hold the lid on so you don't burn yourself if you take it to a potuck. Now look at this sucker!!!

You get an app on your phone and you can control it from anywhere that has wi-fi. I'm not getting that either. Shees, I am have trouble just making phone calls on my phone!!! (Plus I don't use my crock pot a lot)

Thought it was going to be a sex toy thread didn't ya?:D

I don't want any of my appliances on the interweb. They'd be looking at porn and talking to Mike Yates all day.

If you have an internet-connected home appliance, such as a crock-pot, a lightbulb, or a coffee maker, you can control it from the comfort of your smartphone. But a bug in the Android app that controls some of those devices made by a popular manufacturer also allowed hackers to steal all your cellphone photos and even track your movements.

Security researchers found that the Android app for internet-connected gizmos made by Belkin had a critical bug that let anyone who was on the same network hack the app and get access to the user’s cellphone. This gave them a chance to download all photos and track the user’s position, according to new research by Scott Tenaglia and Joe Tanen, from Invincea Labs.

...(T)he flaw in the WeMo device gave hackers full control of the gizmos, even more than the owners themselves. That way, the hackers could even disable the owners’ ability to remove malware and update firmware. At that point, according to the researchers, the only solution is tossing your IoT device.
Stay safe out there.

I'll be plumbing the propane up to my fridge and range this weekend out at my cabin. I have simple, off grid appliances out there. Prior to this, I've just had temporary plumbing to the range and the fridge ran on AC from the battery bank via the inverter. Once the fridge is off the AC, the batteries will last a 4 day stint without sun on the solar panels without requiring the generator to be started.

Should cell service be expanded enough for there to be internet access at the cabin, I would probably pick up a couple of real-time security cams/alarms/etc. I do like being able to be on the other side of the world and check on my house in Anchorage.

I love my crockpot! It makes me feel like I almost know how to cook! :)
