They say you aren't worth their time...

They say you don't have a right to complain when your last in line. They say that you aren't strong enough, that you don't have it. They say that you have no talent, no class, no intelligence. They tell you that you shouldn't even try... because they know you will only fail.

Maybe it is a boss that tells you. Maybe it's a brother or sister in a moment of rage. Perhaps its a parent who is just repeating the mantra that his father had said to him. Perhaps its a lover, who doesn't understand. Maybe they don't mean it, maybe it isn't their fault; it still hurts all the same.

Well, you can do it. Sometimes when they say you can't, it is only because they haven't seen what you can do. When they say you have no talent, it's often because they are jealous, or they don't understand it. When they tell you that you aren't strong enough, its because it comes easy to them - they've been doing it all this time... You're just learning. And if they tell you that your place is last in line? It's because they want to stand on your back.

Those who tell you that you aren't worth their time, are not worth yours. They are all just afraid and they want you to join them in their fear.

Don't fear.

I wish I could have heard all of that 12 years ago. Life would be so much different now.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Sometimes when you need to hear something, you have to say it yourself.

But you know now... and that's what's important. :)

Awesome post Black Bird... I have you pegged now. You are really an 87 year old mystic/philosopher currently sitting in a cave in the Himalayas, pounding away on a laptop, powered by a Yeti on a treadmill.

Great insight, and I agree with lovetoread.

*Chuckles*

Nope... I'm a 22 year old male who works nights and has very little social life and even less of a sex life. :p

BUT I do have a Yeti on a treadmill! Helps keep the electric bill down.

Absolutely love your posts, Mr Bird. Hard to capture it in words but they really touch me. Thank You

Halo :rose:

What kind of job do you have ?
Nice to see another dweller in the dark.
I also work the deep night shift and would not want it any other way. ( Unless I could own my own business that is. )

And again Black_Bird you go in there and root around in my tender places.

The people who did this to me are history. Took me 40+ years to give them the boot. Now when I replay their toxic mantras I smile because I know what you said is true...it is their fear talking.

I do stock work for a supermarket. Tough job - doesn't pay enough... have to deal with constant whining... Not my idea of a career.

Someday, I want to own a quirky little bookstore. :)

Heh. I have sore spots too... I seem to remember somebody saying that "We are all a little broken."

I think I heard that last night, in fact... On TV. *shrugs* It'll come to me. :)

Do more then smile, hon; Laugh. ;)

Nobody has ever told me this. And if they did they would recieve the two fingered salute in response. (Behind their back if they were my boss though)

I'd like to think that that was the best attitude to have.

Good morning Beaky :)

I want to know more about your quirky little book store. One of my long held dreams is to own a book store and also to write children's books. Maybe one day.

*sighs*

That is my dream also.

*another sigh from me*

Hmmmm .... we think alike in a lot of things. My dream is to own my own book store. I work for a 24 hour quickie store. I do approx 1 hour of real honest work ... then the rest of the night is mine to read or play my video games I take to work with me. :D

Good Morning Foxy.

My quirky little book store? ... mostly occult books, but various other oddities also... Perhaps a special place for Shel Silverstein can be found... ;)

I want to be the type of shop owner you go to when you are looking for something *really* special... Not just your run of the mill kind of shop. :)

Great post, I'm more than double your age but you've captured a thought that is way beyond your years.

No, Tim... I'm sorry to disappoint you, but...

Kiwiwolf came up with the Yeti on a treadmill line, not I.

Are you sure you're only 22? I met a few 22 year olds the other night at a party who made me feel really really old and cynical. They were just full of idealistic enthusiasm because the shitty stuff in life hasn't happened to them yet.

These were people just on the edge between university and full-time work so they haven't actually had to do the daily grind routine day in and day out yet. One young woman was especially naive. She kept talking about how she would never be bought and never give in to corporate life, etc, etc. She was very well dressed though, and I wondered how long the money from her parents would last and how long she would last without it before giving into the corporate demons she was talking about.

Sorry to go on, but that's my recent impression of 22 years old, and from the posts I've read, you seem nothing like that. In a good way :) .

Ha! LOL. Blackbird, I just read your "I am naked" and I take it all back. Now you seem like a 22 year old! Also in a good way :D

So what, you're both sweeties. Besides, you know damn well he meant you're opening post. Tim1 stole the words right out of my mouth. :)

Hon... I've always been very introspective, but don't let that fool you! I'm also, like any other 22 y.o. male, a horny little bastard.

When I was 22

Bird--

Life sucked for me at 22, too. The fact I'm breathing is no small feat. That doesn't mean I'm special either. I am stubborn as hell though and I fought back.

Life didn't get easier but it got better because I demanded it of myself. Life is a struggle according to Dr. Vicent Peale. I agree. Life is also worth living.

I'm 37 now, and I'm tired. I buried a family member Saturday and my body aches. My teenager is getting on my last nerve. Sometimes I want to choke her except when I'm pacing the floor wondering where she is and hoping she's breathing. My 7 year-old dad refuses to co-parent. We're two people raising a child separately. My company let go 59 employees and my lover is in another state.

Take a deep breath. You are sensitive, kind, loving, talented, giving. You're worth my time, and I glad you share some of yours with me.

Be well.

Peace,

daughter

Age and wisdom are not synonyms, though often there's some correlation. Nicely articulated, bird, as the others here have testified.

Can I borrow your yeti?

Well, I suppose... but I want him back this Saterday night! We're having a party and, well, he's really good with the ladies... if you know what I mean. ;)
