A girl in a baggy grey sweatshirt and loose-fitting pants shuffled through the large library in red sneakers. An awkward ponytail contained her messy red hair, and glasses that were even more awkward adorned her face. The glasses were a farce, the glass simply clear with no magnifying capabilities whatsoever. She wore them because they looked large and clumsy against her face, wanting to keep people from looking too closely.
The reason for her frumpy appearance was because she really wanted nothing to do with anyone. She preferred to shuffle through the library as a part-time job that her parents had urged her to take. They knew the library owner and all but begged him to let her work there, even though she didn't quite look like customer service material. The owner had begrudgingly agreed as long as she mainly worked on organizing the shelves. The only identifier on her person was a name-tag that said, "My name is: Leliana! How can I help?"
Most people didn't realize she was an employee, though, and passed her by. As such, she usually had free reign to simply enjoy a quiet day organizing books. She spent her free-time reading books that she picked up while organizing-it was a great way to find new things to read. The library also had a small coffee-stand that they ran to increase revenue, one which she worked at occasionally if everyone else was unavailable.
It wasn't necessarily that she was socially awkward, she was just extremely cynical. Her parents were overseas and had been so for years, popping back for an obligatory visit every now and then. They were pretty well-off, so for a while, she had flourished in middle school. Her "friends" had liked that they could be unsupervised at her house, playing with expensive make-up and games, then later having their boyfriends over to be intimate with. It didn't take too long for Leliana to realize she was being used. She broke it off with all her friends, making her the target of scorn at school. From then on, she had kept to herself mostly, preferring isolation to vulnerability.
The library was fairly empty that day, it being Thanksgiving and all. Most people were home with their families, but she had volunteered to run the library that day for the few souls who wandered in.
