Do they often do this at Lit? I entered my most recent story under the BDSM section and they put it into the Lesbian Sex section. Granted it does have lesbian sex in it but the main theme is BDSM. I'm a bit pissed off really. Can I do anything about it? Here is the story in case anyone wants to check it out although I'm more concerned with the category than shamelessly plugging my story.

Oh no!!

And they changed my sub heading thingy that's meant to get people to read it. This sucks!!!!!!

I didn't know they could change things I had written. Is that in the rules somewhere or something? Damn it!!!!

Take a look at the Guidelines for Story Submission. It might answer some of you questions or point you in the right direction. I'd read your story but I'm not a BDSM fan any you wouldn't have a proper opinion from me.

Best of luck.

Romy, have you tried asking them? Either through PM to Laurel or through the "report this story" feature? If it is upsetting to you that they moved it, what have you got to lose by asking them to put it where you wanted it?

Thanks for the suggestion minsue. I have PM'd Laurel now. I didn't realise that she was in charge of stuff to do with writing.

I have also read those rules neonlyte, thanks. It does indeed say they can change the subheading if they want. I wouldn't have thought they would do it without a reason though. I never thought it would feel so weird to have my writing messed with like this.

I had a category changed just recently. I tried to put it in Erotic Couplings, but it ended up in BDSM even though the domination aspect was mild to the extreme (no bondage, no punishment, no references to sub or dom). I really expected the BDSM readers to trounce it, but so far, it's not suffering too much (though it's gotten very few votes.)

Usually the description will only be changed if it paired with the title of the story are too many characters long (making it run to the next line instead of staying on one). If that happens, they will sometimes shorten it.

That's really interesting. I recently posted a BDSM story and requested it be placed in the bdsm category, though the only two characters are lesbians. Categories are changed often, but I'm not always certain of the circumstances.

I'm not sure if you're upset because you were hoping to get more attention in the bdsm category, but I can assure you there will likely be many more reads in the lesbian sex category. I just wanted to test the waters in the bdsm category as I never had before and it went right in without a problem. I seriously doubt there will be any complications moving your story. Laurel's pretty understanding. At the very least, maybe she can give you a head's up about why the category was changed in the first place. If she does, would you mind sharing that information with us here?

Good luck and hang in there. I hope everything works out.

p.s. I really hope pop_54 doesn't see this thread. *giggling* A Humor & Satire story that got plunked into Celebrity category for a single mention of a public figure. LOL Boy, was he angry. :D Love ya, Pops.

I don't know why I am upset about this. I suppose because when I write the stories they are more BDSM in my mind than Lesbian Sex. This story in question just happened to be between two women but the theme was BDSM. I wanted all of my stories to be in the same category as they are all centered around the same couple. Now one of them is different. It is being read though.

I have pm'd Laurel but no reply as yet but yes I will surely let you know what she says if and when she replies.

Thanks for your replies.

They changed the subtitle on me, but it was a misapprehension on their part, and I got it fixed straightaway with one PM to Laurel. They put "6" for "Six," and Six was actually a character name, not a number. Easy to fix, and they were prompt.

Category swaps are off-putting, but I would imagine a change in the description/subtitle field would be much more galling. I sympathize. Most markets you write for, however, fell very free to retitle your piece, unless you are an established name.
