I see a buncha (0) <-- this is it! No categories, no stories no nothing. Oh my gawd this is TERRIBLE. I'm panicking.

Can anyone else see stories? Please tell me it's only me and Clinton didn't legislate against free erotic story sites based in Sandy Eggo.

Same thing happened to me. I pulled up the stories main page, and was like WTF?!?!? So, I don't have an answer as to what's going on, but at least I can assure you that you're not going crazy! lol

I can't explain it, but sometimes when I click on the site, I get the new title page, and sometimes I get the old.

The stories seem to have vanished from the new title page, but they are still there on the old.

Okay I am glad that someone else is seeing this also.. I just thought my computer had started to hate me for some reason.. Here is another and see if anyone else has this happen.. I was messing around with the new members search page and did a search with pictures and female only but changed nothing else on the page, so far so good, I get a nice list of members with pictures. As I start going down the list clicking and looking. So of the links to the pictures take me to the old index page not to the picture. Can someone check and see if that is only me or it will happen to them.

It's a conspiracy. Tipper Gore and Pat Buchanan knew Laurel would be leaving the Ranch unattended and hacked into the database and rustled up some dogies and made off with them. *Wwwwwaaahhhhhhh* They intend to keep them for personal use but take the high road easy and prevent anyone else from partaking of that nasty horrible porno stuff.

Laurel mentioned in another thread that when you see the old index page, it is because the server is maxed out. Hit back and try again when this happens.

It is the functional equivalent of the old 505 errors on the old BB software.

The new scripts are processer intensive, and at peak times the server can't handle the load. (when the new stories are posted, for example, There is a "feeding frenzy" that overloads the server's capacity.)

So, if you are seeing the old Story Index, it's because there are too many people on the site at once. Just have patience and you will eventually get to the page you seek.

It's probably worth noting, that Laurel and Manu were traveling yesterday, and that is probably why there are no stories posted for 12/20/00.

Manu mentioned needing a new server in the newsletter, how much do the dratted things cost anyway? He said something about them perhaps buying one in the summer. Would that solve the current problem? Extrapolating at the rate the site itself is growing, I would guess that if not enough servers is the problem, then the purchase of a new server in the summer wouldn't be enough. Or am I shooting in the dark here?

I don't know much about the cost of servers. I do know that they come in different sizes, and the bigger they are (capacity wise), the more they cost.

It's a matter of getting a big enough server to handle the load. I do know that severs big enough do exist, because places like Amazon.com don't crash very often from overload.

I think refining the scripts to work more efficiently will do more to reduce the problems than a bigger server would do. There are problems with the scripts that don't really manefest themselves when only a couple of people are testing them. It takes the numbers of people who access the site daily for them to show up. Then it takes a while for the programmers to rewrite them to deal with the masses.

Patience is indicated here.
