There is a reason why I carry tools

So today was a day off from work, yay three day weekend.

Being as such, and that it was payday, was doing my finances and made a quick trip to the bank. As I pulled in, there was a guy who had just tried to turn over his engine and I recognized the clicking of the starter. Uhoh...dead battery. Meh, figured I'd tend to the bank real quick, and if he was still there, I have a good set of jumper cables in the car.

Come on out to find him out there, someone else had pulled up and they were attempting to jump the car. With...little success. I wandered on over and offered a few pointers [like revving the donor cars engine a touch] to no avail. Guy #1 who owns the car finally admits he'd been to Auto Zone the day before, had the battery tested and was told it was due to be replaced. Heh. So we pronounce the battery dead with no chance of living again. At first, he's rather a bit erm, wondering how he's going to move the car, when I pointed out that there was a Wal-Mart across the street, who would more than gladly sell him a new battery.

He nodded at that, then we looked down to realize just how well secured into the car his battery was. He grimaced and went to go look at the couple of tools he had in his car, when I chuckled, wandered back, and pulled out the Craftsman 300 piece mechanics kit I keep in the car [have done such since '05]. A few laughs later about how at least we'll be able to get the battery out, we unbolt everything and Guy #2 gives him a ride over to Wally World.

In the meantime, I stick behind, since they'll need the tools to replace the battery. As I'm chilling in my car, a woman and her daughter come up. She pops into the bank for about a minute, and I note it seems a little weird since the bank was a bit busier than that [hey its Navy Federal and its payday]. A little bit later I see her come back, look at the car, then get a bit of a worried look on her face and hear the comment "Where is he?". I remembered he had made note of calling his girlfriend, so I hop out, look at her and reply "Shall I presume you're the girlfriend? If so, he went over to WalMarts to get a new battery." A look of relief washes over her face, and we proceed to await his return.

It took him about an hour to get a new battery, but up they come. A few minutes later the battery is bolted in, and the car starts up quite easily. He comes up, just shaking hands, and thanking both of us up and down. Then offers me a bottle of water with the simple statement "I wish I could give you a $100 but I don't have that on me. However, it is a very hot day, can I at least offer you this and that I'll say a few prayers of thanks to God for sending you my way." I just give him a smile as I take the bottle of water and reply "The water means more than a hundred dollars [hell it was 90F out], the prayers I thank you for. But all I really ask, is that when you see someone in need, remember how you were helped, and give them help if you can." Tears stream down his face as he nods rapidly, a big smile on his lips, as he turns towards his newfound friend, Guy #2. "Today I am blessed, for not only have I received help when I needed it, but I have a newfound friend."

With that, I just pulled away, happily rehydrating myself and that feel good mood of helping someone else out.

There's nothing like that feeling that comes from helping someone that truly appreciates it, is there?

Good for you, sweetie. Karma is smiling on you.

A  from the good little witch.

Good Job there. Nothing quite like helping another than only asking them to pay it foreward.
