The Original The World Below was a thread I started almost three years ago when I first joined lit a long long time ago. It was widely popular and I had a really good group of writers and it lasted for a long time. So now,three years later, here I am trying to start it up again because I think with a good group of writers,it can be a good story once again. The thread is open to all descriptive writers,I want people who write more than three lines a post. Other than that its open to anyone who wants to join,how ever many that might be. Its fairly open ended and can go all different ways. Other than that,below I have all the information about the story laid out so if your interested,just say so

The World Below is a thread that the idea is a hybrid of all of the Vampire,Were Wolf and other Super Natural movies and shows all wrapped up into one, taking the best of each different idea and rolling them all up into unique world for the writers taking part in it. The World Below is in reference to the fact that there is the world that we humans know about and live in and in the shadows of the night there is a secret world where a war in raging. The War is the same one that has been raging since the middle ages: Lycanathropes vs Vampires for dominance of the night. The vampires with their intelligence and resources versus the lycanathropes with their near endless numbers and their brutal,animalistic methods. In the middle of everything there are a small chosen few humans who fight to keep the war from spilling out onto the streets and to defend the innocent and ignorant from becoming victims to this creatures of the night,they are known as Hunters. Hunter's not only hunt vampires and lycans,they also hunt the other super natural creatures that go bump in the night: ghosts,demons,witches,liches and any other evil creature that decides to rear its ugly head in the night.

The World Below takes place in one of the major cities in the United States(havn't decided), so now in back alleys and hidden places of the night the war for supremacy is taking place right under everyone's noses. So that is a short summary of what the story is about. Now I want to cover in more detail what different sides are taking place in this fight:

Vampires: The Homunus Nocturnum, or the vampire is a undead creatures that originally ruled the night and most of the world back in the old dark ages before their war with the Lycans that weakened them to the point where they had to slip into the shadows lest they would be overwhelmed by the Humans. Since there are hundreds of different interpretations of what strengths,weakness and all that are I am going to lay them out so we can be clear. Vampires in the world below are going to be the elite chosen few of the night and they act as such,they are noble and resourceful and have lots of money. They have tons of cash to spend on technology and weapons. They are always in human forms that look exactly like they did when they got turned. To be turned to one of the vampires,it requires the vampire doing the turning to give the human they are turning some of their blood,either by letting them drink it or injecting it. After receiving the blood,the humans will die since its completely toxic and 24 hour hours later they will awaken a new as a vampire. There is no cure to vampirism,so once you are turned you are a vampire eternally til the day you get killed again. The vampire "nation" is ruled by twelve great houses of vampires that are comprised of different blood lines that were all forced together into a house,the houses are spread amongst the different countries of the world and are all different and diverse. Each house has a Vampire Lord or the leader of the house that is part of the council of lords that makes decisions for the whole. In the vampire world there are two types of Vampires: New Bloods and Old Bloods. Old Bloods are vampires that have lived for 100 years or more and are considered to be far more powerful than New bloods or newly turned vampires. The strengths of being a vampire on top of the fact that most of the vampires are members of the twelve great vampires houses and each house has amazing wealth and influence, is that vampires have super human strength,speed and agility. Compliment that with high tech weaponry and that is a reason that the vampires once ruled the night. Old Blood Vampires of certain blood lines are also known to have exhibited strange powers such as the Hide Hand: An ability that grants vampires the power to manipulate objects (eg: moving objects, levitating, breaking people's bones, etc.) and Eye raid An ability that grants a vampire to control a person's mind through eye contact. They can search through their memories, induce hypnosis, and control their actions. This ability can work on multiple targets at once. Weaknesses for the vampire race are the most obvious which is Sunlight: Direct skin contact will burn a vampire to ash. Garlic will cause anaphylactic shock, stakes or special bullets made of silver to the head or heart will also kill a vampire. When a vampire is killed they immediately burst into ash.Another Vampire weakness is that they have to feed on human blood. When a vampire bites a human,they experience the ultimate in physical pleasure,its considered to be even better than an orgasm. If a vampire doesn't feed they began to feel the thirst until it consumes them and they lose all reason and sense and go on massive feeding rampage. Since Vampires cannot go out in the day,they once used the lycans as their day time protectors but now they use human's know as Familiars to take care of day to day business. Familiars are vampire wannabes that are told that in return for faithful service they will be turned.

Lycanthropes: Lycanthrope is a sophisticated way to say were-man. There are Lycanthropes of every type of creature,the most common ones are: Were-Wolf, Were-Bear,Were-Tiger and Were-Rat. Lycan's as they are called for short used to be the day time protectors and servants of the vampires,a long time ago,way back in the dark ages but it just took one intelligent and charismatic leader to decide to fight back against the vampires,to realize that in their animal form,Lycans were strong,faster and a lot more brutal than their Vampire counter parts. So they rebelled and ever since then,there has been a war between the Vampires and Lycans. They have been fighting so long no one really knows why they are fighting other than to just fight. The Lycans roam in tribes usually by what type of lycan they are: were wolves with were wolves ect ect though there are on occasion mixed tribes of outcast lycans that are shunned by all others. The Lycan tribes don't have any sort of unification between them and some are prone to fight each other more than the vampires sometimes. Some people say that is one of the main reasons why Lycans havn't overwhelmed and crushed the vampires.Lycans are the opposite of the vampires in that they are hundreds upon thousands of them because all it takes in a bite from a Lycan and humans become one of them. Because of their brutish nature and that constant hunting from the resourceful and powerful vampires,the Lycans tend to live out in the wild,in caves or down in the sewers or few safe houses,really underground places where they are free to be as wild as they please. Tribes are not known for having money or having means to get high tech weaponry like the vampires so they pride themselves on their animal shape which is the main strength of the Lycans. Lycans can morph into two things: the first is they can turn into the shape of the animal they represent( ex. a wolf) as well as they brutish and massively powerful half animal half man shape. Growing huge and brutish,the raw power of the Lycan's is undeniable. The Lycan's main weakness is that they are vulnerable to silver weapons but highly resistant to other attacks.

Hunters: A very chosen few of human that know about the World below that are trying to defend humanity. Where other humans know about it and try to cover it up or work for the vampires,Hunters are the select brave and noble few humans who go out into the night to fight the evil that goes bump in the night. They are highly misunderstood to other people and tend to be just as secretive as the other branches. Hunters work in sleeper cells,when one goes down another one activates to take its place. The cells range for 2 men to a large organization of hunters that all work together. Using all manners of weaponry and technology,these brave unsung heroes in the dark are some times the only thing that keeps the war from spilling out into the streets,they protect the ignorance and the innocent of the humans who go through life without knowing whats really going on.

Super Natural: Though this is a broad description,what can go in this column is a very broad spectrum of things. Whether its a demon who has finally escaped hell to wreck havoc and manipulate the war or pray on innocent people, or its a vengeful wright that stalks the city looking for any kind of pray that can get its hand on, the super natural covers all manner of folk lore creatures that you could imagine. I want very few of this in the story since its kind of hard to work them in but if you have an idea,just run it by me and I am more than flexible about this kind of thing.

The World Below sounds like a great idea for a thread, I'd really like a chance to participate. I can write more than three lines per post, I have a spellchecker that I'm not afraid to use and I play nicely with others.

If it is permitted, I have in mind the character of witch - the leader of a small but dedicated coven. I don't want to start bogging you down with details immediately, but if you think this will be acceptable, let me know and I'll work on fleshing her out.

Yeah definitely,I have not problem with the idea of a some witches. I am sure you can be creative and see how it fits in with everything. So why don't you write out a profile or at least flesh out what powers she would have and what not and I can look over them and we can work it out,Like I said,I am more than flexible and will try to work things out

Madeline Howard, moved to Big City to attend college and get control of her own life. She expected to find a quiet place in an insignificant little coven but instead, due to a series of events, some fateful and others tragic, she found herself leading a group of young and resourceful witches determined to help the hunters without revealing what they are.


Informal outline of powers

Familiar-
Boris (cat - Maine Coon). The binding between Patron and familiar allows for a limited telepathic communication and the animals superior senses serve as home security system.

General Powers, Spells and Potions –
Witches can sense other supernaturals. However, unless they have encountered that type of supernatural previously they may not know what it is, just that it isn’t mortal.

Spells are stronger and more effective, but take time, usually require a group to cast, and activate immediately. Potions can be carried and used when needed but are not as strong as spells. Potions for healing and buffs -speed, strength, dexterity, endurance- are usually used in a diluted form to avoid arousing suspicions but when a situation is desperate, they can be used full strength granting superhuman abilities or bringing someone back from the brink of death. Too much of a good thing is rarely a good thing and some potions are addictive. Nearly limitless other effects, powers and abilities can be created through potions and spells.

Spells cast and potions created must be prepared in advance, only a witch’s natural talents is without preparation. Most witches are born with the gift of magic and they can perform a superhuman or supernatural feat independent of the coven. Flying is an impressive gift but can be dangerous, forms of clairvoyance and precognition are the most common, and the rarest are spell-casting and healing. A witch who can heal is usually viewed with respect because the ability generally comes later in a witch’s life and seems to accompany wisdom and patience. A witch who can cast her spells quickly and without a coven can be come a power without check.

Madeline has noticed signs that she may be developing the spellcasting ability, she is trying to keep that a secret.

Honest from what I have seen,it doesn't seem like to bad of a concept. I like the idea of a group of young witches helping the hunters out yet keeping them blind to the fact that they really are supernatural themselves: it puts a little twist on the story but makes it dangerous for the witches because if they hunters ever found out,they would probably kill the witches.

As for the powers,I think its a fair way to kind of break up the power but the question is what spells are you preparing to have as your natural born talents? as long as its nothing to crazy I won't have any sort of problem with it.

Though I don't normally try large group threads, this one seems interesting. I'll do a more detailed write up in a bit, but the short form of what I have in mind is a werebear, leading a mixed tribe of outcast lycans that poses as a motorcycle gang. If that sounds good, I'll post more details.

Powers: Brin is an Old Blood Vampire that is very powerful. Being the last of the Asura bloodline,which is one of the most powerful bloodlines on earth, Brin has the usual regeneration and Super Human physical abilities though it has been said that his are even stronger than the normal vampires. To further back up the already immense power behind the Crimson Eyed Warrior is his unparalleled skill with a sword,having been training with the weapon since the 1500's. Also, to compliment this already deadly combination is the common powers of many of the other more powerful bloodlines: The Hide Hand and the Eye Raid. One unique ability that is part of the Asura bloodline is pyrokinesis or the ability to control fire with his mind.

Physical Description: Brin stands barely six feet in height, with a slender frame that almost makes him look skinny. Brin has long jet back hair that is well kept and smooth that compliments his pale skinned and handsome,pretty boy face that seems just perfect with the right bone structure. With unique and striking deep crimson colored eyes that seem to have an almost magical quality to them, they seem sharp and yet in them is a old look of wisdom that seems to speak to the fact that they have witnessed many things in their time. Despite being slender and having a sleek physique,underneath his clothes, Brin has hardened muscles from years of hard labor,power and defined muscles that wind down his arms like corded steal. His upper body much the same way,he has a strong chest and all six abs well defined on his stomach that lead down to a pair of powerful athletic legs,hardened from years of running and walking on them. Brin is normally attired in a deep black and red silk doublet and a long black over coat that hangs down to just below his calves, that has silver borders along the seams and a popped up collar and lapels.On his back,Brin wears a plain blood red cape,held by a fashionable silver clasp.Brin wears a normal black dress belt on his loose black dress trousers that lead into a set of nice black dress shoes. Always belted at his left side is his longsword, the intricate silver hilt of the weapon well polished and inlaid with blood red rubies down the entire hilt leading to the Large ruby in the center of the pommel of the sword, the blade crafted from a mix of iron and silver,making the blade look completely silver and able to kill vampires and humans. The weapon rests in a jet black leather scabbard that blends in perfectly with the rest of Brin's dark attire.

Personality: Brin is a mysterious bundle of emotions and personalities all contradicting each other and all wrapped up into one single mystery that is Brin Draven,the Crimson Eyed Warrior. Having been raised in the time of grand battles, knights and chivalry, in his very core, Brin still believes in the way of warrior and the true path of a righteous knight in the service of the king. Though centuries of living in the shadows of the world and passing through era after era,as the moral fiber of the world began to degrade,it eventually began to degrade Brin's soul. Having a dark side, that compared to other vampires would be considered a joke, Brin still feels keenly the thirst for blood and delights in the taste of hot blood on his lips,the warm feeling of it coursing through his veins as he drain's his preferred choice of victim: beautiful young female virgins, virgin blood being considered a delicacy to vampires that in this day and age is so hard to come by. Despite all that,Brin is an outcast: the last of his line,Brin is often poorly misunderstood by the vampire race. Often considered Vampire Myth, few vampires actually know him but many of know him because of his distinct crimson eyes that go with his unique bloodline and his reputation as one of the most powerful Old Blood vampires. Having grown a hard heart and a stoic attitude from seeing years of suffering and pain, Brin is usually cold,emotionless and calculating yet always acts like a noble gentlemen to the few people he interacts with. Behind the cold,calculating and mysterious outside there is a noble man and a passionate warrior that exults in the thrill of battle: Often being referred to as the Red-Eyed Murder,The Kin Killer and the Ancient Dark Hunter, Brin has been known to fight for his side and his side only in the war,fighting whatever gets in his way,whether its vampire,human or lycan. Brin is a vagrant and wandering vampire that is constantly looking for a new battle to thrill him,though in this day where swords are no longer the greatest weapon, it is harder and harder for the Crimson Eyed Warrior to find a place to exist.

Biography: Brin Draven was born on Nov.10 1393 to the Baron of Yorkshire Sir. Andorig Draven and his pretty young wife who's name has been lost to history. Sir.Draven was the cousin and chief of the knights of King Henry the Fifth and famous through all of England. Brin was raised since the time he could stand to be a brave and gallant knight. At the age of 5 he was already training 18 hours a day with the knights in his fathers charge. Learning the way of the sword,how to ride a horse, the use of armor and military tactics. He grew up brave and strong from years of ceaseless training. At the age of Eighteen,Brin was of the most promising young knights in the service of King Henry the Fifth and set to take over his fathers position as the Baron of Yorkshire.

In early spring of his eighteenth year of his life, Brin and His father were called up to serve in the personal retinue of King Henry the Fifth as he led the charge against the French during this new string of warfare surrounding the Hundred Years war. Two years into the campaign in France,at a minor skirmish with the French,Brin's father was killed defending King Henry from an ambush. Right there on the battle field after the fight, Brin was knighted as Sir.Brin Draven, Baron of Yorkshire and personal defender of King Henry the Fifth. At the age of 22 is when Sir.Brin Draven of Yorkshire died.

On the 25th of October(St.Crispin's Day) in the year of 1415, the famous Battle of Agincourt took place. Heavily outnumbered by the French,the English were tired from travel and fighting not a few days ago when a Large French army appeared to finish off the battered English army. King Henry the fifth,the charismatic leader was not worried as he arrayed his men for battle to meet the French head on and then delivered one of the most famous speeches that was later immortalized by William Shakesphere. Rallied together and ready to fight,the English army stood defiantly,waiting for the French to come forth to meet them. At the head of the English Army, Henry the Fifth and his personal retinue of knight protectors,including his personal bodyguard Sir.Brin Draven, Lead the charge to meet the French.

As the battle ensued and chaos erupted all over the field, Henry joined in the grand melee at the center of it all,Charging him and his knight up through the weak infantry at the center of the French line in an attempt to get to the commander of the French army and kill him. As the French moved up more men into the center of their line,especially some of their elite men at arms, King Henry was cut off and surrounded from the bulk of his army. Looking to withdraw, Brin the led the charge to cut the King a path from battle. Once the path was open Brin stayed behind with three of his most loyal knights to stem of the horde of warriors. With enough time to escape,King Henry was able to pull back a little bit more to friendly lines and rejoin the fight.

Cut off from King Henry, Brin fought defiantly,his sword flashing in the morning sunlight,spilling blood all around him and killed men in droves around him as he fought til the bitter end,even after he was drug off his horse and the other knights were killed. Brin was finally taken down,overwhelmed as he kept fighting tooth and nail with his enemies. Little did he know, out on that same battle field was the legendary "Fire God and Ancient Warrior of the East" Asura, one of the first vampires and having existed for thousands of years.

Asura was a great warrior from some foreign country(somewhere in Asia, estimated in Japan), that had grown tired of the peace in the east and had decided to come to the to see how they wage war. Having taken a keen interest in the hundred year war,he had slipped into the French army and had been fighting for the French crown. Having never started a bloodline,having always been a solitary,wandering warrior that went from battle to battle,staying behind the scenes of the world just spilling blood, he had never found anyone he ever felt was worthy of his lineage until during the Battle of Agincourt when he witnessed Brin's last stand. As the battle all around him still ensued,the legendary warrior slipped to where Brin had been beat down and pinned under a dead body or two and found him still alive yet so close to death,he was not going to live for another hour more. Whisking him away from the battle field and into the surrounding woods, Asura cut his palm open and dripped a stream of his black blood into the mouth of the dying Brin Draven. Brin died almost instantly as the toxic blood was ingested.

Asura knew that second generation vampires,no matter how powerful the bloodline would be weak to sunlight,he had learned from his brethren who had created bloodlines that as each new generation began,they got weaker and weaker to sun light until now modern day vampires couldn't even go outside during the day without being ashed. Brin, a second generation vampire would be severely weakened by the sun light and eventually killed by it after long exposure but not ashed the minute it hit his skin,Asura who was immune to sunlight, found a cave in the nearby area and stowed his new descendant away in the darkness of the cave. When Brin awoke up into his new,cursed unlife he was surprised that he had even survived. He had changed,his body having completely healed from his wounds, his canines having enlarged and his pupils having turned a deep crimson color.

The first thing he saw when he finally awoke was the crimson eyed Asura waiting for him,wearing a malicious grin on his face and covered with more and more blood as he had rejoined the battle. Still wearing a French Uniform though,Brin was on his feet and immediately began to fight with him. Toying with him,Asura allowed the battle to continue for hours before finally using his abilities to defeat Brin. Amused and satisfied with his choice of a protege, Asura began to explain the truth of what had happened to Brin, about what his new life would imply,how he could survive and that he could never return to his old life because to the English who had won the battle thought he was dead.

Asura and Brin spent the next year in the cave together, training constantly at night: not only with arms but with his new powers,Asura got enjoyment out of training his eager disciple. Asura would go out during the day while his disciple slept and get food(humans) for the two of them and the two would spend all night training. Finally after a year and a final friendly sparing match between the two that lasted 3 days,Asura decided that it was time for him to go seek more battles and he left his Disciple alone in the cave.

Brin never saw the crimson eyed ancient vampire that was his master ever again,some say Asura was finally killed during the opening stages of the Lycan and Vampire war when the Lycan's assassinated most of the original Primarchs of the vampire race when they are at a council to decide how the war would go. Some say Asura was killed leading the Vampire Army in the largest and most vicious battles of between the two races that took place in Transylvania. No one really knows what happened to Asura but no one has ever seen him since the opening days of the Vampire and Lycan war.

Brin found his way from the cave and back to his homeland of England. Brin spent dull years in England,alone and stalking the night for hundreds of years until the 18th century when the colonies in America were finally growing bigger and bigger and more people began to move to the New Land. Having grown bored of England, Brin moved out to the Americas and spent his life as a wealthy English Lord. When the revolution for the independence began, Brin moved back to England with tons of money he had earned in the new world and once again established himself a wealthy English lord.

Spending his time going to night balls and masquerades, Lord Brin Draven began taking part in the Vampire-Lycan war as it spread from Mainland Europe all over the world. Finally finding thrill in the battle once again, Brin had originally sided with his brethren vampires but as he saw more and more how degenerate the vampires really were and how different he and Asura were from the Vampire "nation" and the vampires of these twelve houses,like his former master,Brin turned his back on the vampires and began fighting just for himself. He fought Vampire and Lycan,Deciding that the whole war was pointless anyway and that he was going to try and stop it,Brin began his own private war against both sides.

Joining with a group of humans who called themselves Hunters, Brin fought beside them against both sides but you can only fight both sides so long before they decide that your to big of a threat to be left alone. The house that was based in England,one of the big twelve that was a mesh of the three bloodlines hailing from Ireland,Scotland and England, had joined forces with the Wolf tribe from Whales and together they began a united front against Brin. Brin put up a titanic fight against the two but was finally overwhelmed,so he slipped out of the country one night and once more headed toward the New World. Landing in New York,he established himself as a English Lord and Businessman and spent a couple years doing just that until there was a big migration west.

Deciding to try his luck in the lawless and less populated west,Brin went west and bought himself a massive ranch. Brin spent almost a century out in the west,gradually changing just like the times. It wasn't until the 1920's before he left the new world and returned home to England. When he returned to London,many of the vampires who were hunting him had already been killed in the war and many people didn't even know he had returned because of all the hype from the end of the Great War.

Brin spent 20 more years in Britain until WW2 was in full swing and there was an underground resistance in France. Heading to France, Brin joined the French Underground Resistance in Paris. It was a way he could fight and contribute in the war and not reveal his Vampiric nature because the resistance only carried out missions at night. During his four long years of guerrilla style of warfare in the shadows of France, Brin ran into many vampires and Lycans who were fighting in support of the Nazi and the Allies. None of them really knew him but once the great war ended, the divided houses of the vampire nation(split between axis and ally) and the tribes of the lycans began their war for dominance of the night once again.

Brin,still disillusioned with both sides once again became a wandering warrior but began taking part in the fight once again,fighting for only himself and fighting both sides. Never in the same place for to long and never fighting the same people for to long,Brin slipped into the shadows of history and never really became anything more than a myth to most modern day vampires and lycans because usually anyone who had seen him he killed,leaving only rumors and legends of the ancient dark hunter, the follower of the Fire God, the red-eyed murderer, and the prince with blood-colored eyes,the last descendant of the great warrior Asura's bloodline .

Well its going to be kind of like Underworld, how they used modern day weaponry but they had created their own ultraviolet bullets and silver hollow tips ect ect. Mostly the more advanced technology will be used the vampires because they have the endless amount of money to spend of research and development.

I forgot to mention, I posted up the general format for what a profile should look like. For some reason my picture doesn't show up because I guess the insert image shit don't work like it used to or else I just failed miserably at it. Anyways that beside the point,if we can start fleshing out some profiles we can start moving this thread quite along.

As for the powers,I think its a fair way to kind of break up the power but the question is what spells are you preparing to have as your natural born talents? as long as its nothing to crazy I won't have any sort of problem with it.

How do feel about stealing her spells from one of D&D cleric's domains? That way
the spells would be related, thematic and some more useful than others.

Well I dunno what domain you mean because some Domain spells are fucking powerful (blade barrier with the maximize feat )

you could be a were shark but I think it would be kind of pointless being on land in a major metropolitan area but I would humor you if you wanted to try it.

Minotar and Ogre....well I dunno. I did say super natural creatures and I dunno if those two fit into that category but I mean if you were adamant about it.

what we really need are one or two more vampires and one or two more lycans,to really flesh out the war aspect and the fact that they are the two dominate creatures of the night,or at least more common.
