The wonderful world of academia.. rant inside

So.. there I was yesterday morning (first day of class) waiting for my 8am class to start. There were about 40 of us waiting. In walks a women..goes to the front of the class and say's.. "This class has be cancelled. There is no instructor. However, you may join a different section that we have on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays". WTF??? Fourty people in a damn class and they can get someone to teach it?? The problems that arise with this are:
1. I have all of my classes on Tu/Tr because I drive an hour and 20 min. to school..one way.
2. This was the last class I needed for my minor.
3. I just needed 18 hours in the spring to graduate by may...'till this happened.
4. I had to buy the book for this class. After being mugged by the bookstore for $53.00, they inform me I can't bring back the book because the plastic was removed. RAT BASTARDS!!!!!

Anyway, that was my rant. Sorry to have taken up your time.

I hear you. I was just informed that I have to teach another section of the course I teach. The prof who told me acted as if I should be grateful and since he fundementally holds my ass in his hands I had little incentive to object. Of course my life will be thrown into chaos for the next week or so while I adjust to this "request." Sometimes I feel like packing my shit up and taking my kids off to find a cabin in montana. Alas, it civilized their too.

Hang in. Education is a marathon not a sprint. Obstacle course for sure but you'll find a way.

I spect your exactly right about the time of day thing. Power is so corrupting. Even stupid yada yada yada power like department heads get.
