"The Wolves Within"

An old Grandfather, whose grandson came to him with
anger at a schoolmate who had done him an injustice,
said, "Let me tell you a story. I too, at times, have
felt a great hate for those that have taken so much,
with no sorrow for what they do. But hate wears you
down, and does not hurt your enemy. It is like taking
poison and wishing your enemy would die. I have
struggled with these feelings many times."

He continued, "It is as if there are two wolves inside
me; one is good and does no harm. He lives in
harmony with all around him and does not take offense
when no offense was intended. He will only fight when
it is right to do so, and in the right way."

"But the other wolf, ah! He is full of anger. The
littlest thing will set him into a fit of temper. He
fights everyone, all the time, for no reason. He
cannot think because his anger and hate are so
great. It is hard to live with these two wolves inside
me, for both of them try to dominate my spirit."

The boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes
and asked, "Which one wins, Grandfather?"

The Grandfather solemnly said, "The one I feed."

....and your point?
Do you know how to read?

If you don't get it, I can't explain it to you. Or, at least, I won't.

Cheynne

I've head this story before, a poem written by an American soldier as he recovered in a WWII hospital, the opening stanza was:

Two natures beat within my breast
One is evil, one is blessed

I wish I could remember it all because it delivers exactly the same moral, but seems to tell it better.

It was sent to me in email yesterday on an email list I belong to. I thought it sounded faintly familiar- maybe I've seen the soldier version somewhere along the way. Anyone have it to post it?

Two natures beat within my breast.
One is foul, the other blest.
The one I love; the one I hate.
The one I feed will dominate.

Cheyenne--

I do resent your condescending question regarding my ability
to read--

The story was 'self-evident'--That was the only inference I was making.

And to set the record straight--As far as asking you questions about oral sex, the record will show that YOU initially responded to a thread by KARMIC and I responded to that--

I didn't solicit your comments blindly--

So call the events as they occurred not in the order you'd like to have them-

I know I've mentioned this once or twice, but it bears repeating. Please do not post other people's personal and private information - including real names, addresses, private emails, etc. - on this BB. Thanks!

Wow. Just wow. That just touched me inside. I don't know why, but it just did.

Thanks, Bri. I do like that version better. Short, but makes you think.

Laurel, thank you for your edit work. You're a sweetie!

And to everyone who emailed me about the info posted here earlier by WoodyViagra, thank you, too. It is nice to know I have loyal friends here. :)

I apologized for biting your head off in an earlier email. That's not quite the same thing.

I still think you needed to add a smilie or something to your first post on this thread to let people know it was made in jest. That is just not clear and we aren't mind readers.

Cheyenne--

S-M-I-L-E--There--Satisfied?--Now do you think people really care @ this point?

Remember, _I_ wasn't the 1 who jumped to the conclusion your post didn't have any value--You did that on your own--

Now let it GO!!!!!!!

Now then....

Have a great day!

Somefolks just can't leave bad enough alone...exit stage right singing "Its a Small World"

BTW Chey, always a pleasure to help out, and I liked the post that started this mess very much, its a shame that some folks just don't get it.

You might want to reread my post. It had nothing to do with her actions - it had to do with yours.

Have a great day. :)

Is that where the term feeding frenzy comes from?

Cheyenne,

Thanks for the story. This should be required reading for all BB posters. If people utilized the 'count to 10' rule here before posting, I bet we'd see a lot less arguments.

Perhaps if they did, they would also derive greater pleasure from this forum. But, in any event, the fable about feeding anger and nourishing it translates so well to this environment. I am just afraid that the very people who need to see it, won't or will ignore it.

Bri, I think I'm in love ;), thank you I wracked my brain for hours over that one.

Thanks again, everyone. You always seem to be able to restore my faith in people when it is just about gone.

I think I'm going to print Bri's 4 line version and post it near my computer to remind me as needed.

Yes! This ties so well into recent threads about trolls. Also, there is a vast difference between 'anger' as in hate, and 'anger' [read "fighting in the right way"] as in an emotive and heart-felt reply to a topic which you have strong feelings about. It can be hard to moderate our beliefs and values, but it's very easy to think at least twice before we say / type the words we do. It's so easy, in fact, that many people can't even be bothered to think once ...

The best threads, IMHO, are the ones where the 'good' wolves [to continue the metaphor] hunt in packs and "fight in the right way". [I say 'good' not meaning right or wrong with regard to opinions expressed, of course, but with regard to how they express them]. I gain no pleasure when encountering packs of that other wolf. I met such a pack once upon a time and the "littlest thing" certainly set them "into a fit of temper" [thinly disguised as nonchalance]. Very unnecessary, but I hope that they read and assimilate the story here. I have; thanks for sharing.

Juspar, I believe the object of your affection is an unknown soldier, not me. Your projecting, dear :)

But I'm happy to have been of service :)
