The wishing stone

I picked up the small green stone, hung from a gold chain - turning it over in my hands. The chain was probably just gold coated, but the stone was interesting, an uncut crystal save for some tiny scratched markings on one smooth surface.

"How much?" I asked.

"Seventy-five" replied the woman, leaning over the small market stall to flick the price tag that dangled from the chain.

"I'll go to Sixty" I said, looking to her.

"Sixty?" she scoffed, "Seventy."

I went to put it back down, then paused for show, before meeting her ice blue eyes again. "Sixty five" I said.

Her eyes wavered a moment, then she smiled and nodded. "Done."

I pulled out my wallet, and thumbed out the notes for her,
while Luke my friend looked on.

"You paid sixty-five bucks for that chip of glass?" he said as we walked away from the stall, taking it from me for a look. "You're mad."

I laughed. "I thought Rach would like it."

"Yeah, I suppose she will at that, goth freak that she is" he retorted.

"Hey! Thats my fiancee you're talking about" I replied, punching him in the shoulder.

"Ow! Just joking, mate!" he laughed.

"I know, otherwise I would have hit you harder" I grinned back. "Pity she couldn't get away from work today. Would have rather spent the day with her than you!"

"Yeah, I wish you were a hot looking babe, too" he said, laughing, handing me back the necklace.

Then, I stumbled, everything suddenly seeming to spin about me. I fell forward, Luke just managing to stop me from falling, but then almost immediately let go, dropping me to the ground.

I started to push myself up from the ground, but stopped as I looked down at my hands.

My hands? Slender fingers with finely manicured nails, and lightly tanned skin. Feminine hands. Not my hands!

"Jesus H Christ!" I heard Luke exclaim.

I sat up, staring at the hands that had seemed to take the place of mine. Then, I glanced down.

"Fucking hell!" I swore. Or at least, I think I said, for the word came out in a light, melodic voice. My t-shirt was bulging with two prominent lumps.

"Sam?" Luke said, slowly.

"Fuck fuck fuck" I swore, gingerly prodding my forefingers against the alien bulges on my chest. "This can't be happening!"

"Shit man, you're a woman!" he said.

"What the fuck happened?" I shouted, or screamed rather, scambling to my feet. Several passers by looked over at us strangely, though none seemed to have noticed the... the... the actual change.

"I don't know!" Luke shouted back, stepped back from me as if he thought the condition was contagious.

His words I wish you were a hot looking babe suddenly hit me. "Fuck! You wished I was a hot looking babe!" I swore.

He stared at me, his eyes flickering down to stare at my chest. I quickly folded my arms over my newly acquired breasts and screamed "don't stare at me like that!"

"You all right miss?" asked a man, "is this man bothering you?"

My glare sent him hurrying on by, and I turned back to face my friend. "Wish me back!" I said, stepping towards Luke.

"I wish Luke was a man again" Luke said, after a few moments. Nothing happened.

"The necklace!" I said, something suddenly clicking. "You were holding it!"

"I gave it back!" Luke replied quickly, and we both started glancing around the ground. I saw it hanging over the kerb, and quickly snatched it up.

"I wish I was a man again" I said, cluthching the necklace in my hands. Again, nothing happened. "Fuck!... what am I going to do?"

"Maybe I have to undo it?" Luke said, holding out his hand. I passed him the necklace, and he repeated his last wish. Nothing.

"Shit, I wish I fucking knew what was going on here!" I said.

At that, I knew. The green crystal stone granted only one wish per person, and it would only grant a wish wasn't meant intentionally, only spoken by accident not design, or in anger not contemplation. You just had to be close to the necklace, not actually holding it.

"Fucking hell!" I swore. "That woman who sold it to me! Maybe she knows how to break this wish!"

We hurried back to where the ornament stall was. Or at least, where it was. It was gone, a fruit stall in its place.

"It could have been worse, you could have been turned into a baby, I did say babe" Luke said, after a few minutes of frantic searching and asking questions through the market. No one seemed to know about the stall or the woman I spoke of. "She's gone..."

I shook my head, then had to brush some strands of the long dark hair that fell down now over my shoulders from my face. "She can't be... this can't be happening!"

Luke shrugged, staring at me. "Want a beer?" he asked.

I gave him a glare which made him flinch and headed off. "I'm going home" I shouted back.

"Sam!" he shouted after me. Onlookers glanced again in our direction, like we were some lovers having an argument or something. I swore under my breath. "Just, just leave me alone! You've done enough!" I shoputed back.

I slammed the door shut behind me when I finally got home, stumbling up the steps to the bathroom, where I promptly threw up into the toilet.

"Is that you Sam?" I heard my sisters voice call out. Fuck, thats all I needed. I kicked the bathroom door shut, just in time apparently, for then I heard footsteps outside on the landing outside the bathroom.

"You been drinking too much again?" I heard Laura say now through the door.

"No, I'm okay" I replied, as gruffly as I could.

"You sound rough" she said. "I wish you'd do as mum says. You shouldn't drink so much."

I felt a tingling sensation, and glanced down at the stone I still clutched. Oh fuck, not another wish!

"I just don't feel well... I haven't been drinking yet, honestly" I said, after swearing under my breath.

"If you say so" Laura replied, primly. "You sure don't sound too good."

Where were you planning on going with this? I mean, it's a cool idea but I'm a bit confused.
