The Washington Redskins

Apples and oranges. The names you cite are specific tribal and object names. "Redskins" isn't. It's taken by some as a racial/ethnic slur. (Not by me, by the way. I don't see it as a slur.)

"Blackhawk" was the name of a highly respected American Indian leader. So is "Geronimo" although probably less respected. That last name is also what people shout as they jump out of airplanes.

Yes, yes. But that's not the point. They aren't the same classification as "Redskins."

Although I don't see "Redskins" as a slur, I'd probably change the name. It hurts the franchise in retail sales (you may notice that some retail catalog selling shirts, mugs, etc. for professional teams don't include the Washington Redskins) and it doesn't really have much to do with Washington, D.C.

Why not change the name to the Washington Foreskins?

Are they not an extension of the D.C. Dicks in Congress?
