As far back as I can remember the US has been at war, even if we had to invent them. The War on Poverty, the Cold War, The War on Stupid (education), the War on Drugs. Some were real shooting wars, many were merely rallying cries for the purpose of separating the taxpayer from their hard earned dollar.
Real wars on foreign soils have the possibility of being won. The cost is horrendous in treasure and life, but at least one can look forward to an eventual ending of the conflict. Not so with the 'social' wars. Drugs, stupid, poverty, etc. will always be with us. The surrender of ALL of our liberties will not bring these wars to an end, primarily because these wars are fought on the battle ground of relativity. Hence the definition of winning is always changing, just when you think you're making headway the politicians move the goal posts.
The amount of national treasure pissed away fighting these 'social wars' is mind boggling and dwarfs that which has been spent on real wars to date.
I wonder how many others are tired of being jerked around by the politicians that take up the banner of crusade in one form or another for no well thought out reason other than to gather power unto themselves?
