I've just submitted part 10 of my Proclivities series and, yes, to my limited following, the answer to the question, "What the help took you so long?" is that the story pulled me a certain way and I fought it. As the Borg would say, resistance is futile. I finally succumbed to what the muses insisted. It was one of those things where my heart said go with it. My brain said, is this a natural evolution to the characters and plot?

So after battling for months, I put the final touches on it today and submitted it.

Have you had a similar experience?

Nothing to do now but await its posting and if anyone is willing to wade through 14K words to offer judgement.

I always feel guilty about leaving a long gap but I've had to. Sometimes the muse is inconsistent. I do procrastinate though. Glad you're back!

No, I don't have that problem, because I don't start submitting a series until the series is complete.

Thanks. Good to be back. I felt the guilt, having solicited my readers about continuing the story. Things came up. We retired, moved. Lots of distractions - one of the reasons we came here.

With Ship's Whore, I paused for a year after Chapter 5 waiting for inspiration on how to make the leap into interstellar space.

In reading your post, I looked up your submissions page. Your gap between chapters 9 and 10 is only a little over three months. In my current project I released the first four chapters at the beginning of June and will submit a further four chapters at beginning of September. Thereafter I will submit four chapters every two months. Currently I have 16 chapters completed which the last quartet would appear in Jan/24. With that pace I know I'll be able to complete in an orderly fashion without any undue delay between chapters by the time I finally complete my opus. My longest novel containing 33 chapters had a curious submission pace. The first 28 chapters were submitted piecemeal within three months. Then there was a sixteen months gap by the time I finally submitted the last five chapters. I believe I had been in quandary whether to quit after the twenty-eight chapters as I didn't believe I had nothing further to say. But I did feel that there was more left to tell and hence the long delay as I contemplated how I would bring the story to a satisfactory conclusion.

My longest gap was 5 years between chapters 1 and 2. Got a couple of complaints in the comments lol.

i want to do that now. I definitely wished I'd at least written most of it before I started. I'll hopefullt do that with my next series. But...also the comments keep me going so I'm not sure I'll look writing in between series with no one cheering me on lol

Yes, my most recent story began with a certain kind of story in mind and ended with a much different feel. I ended the first volume at a crossroads on how volume 2 would play out, knowing the readers would tell me how they felt, and they have. Happily, I agree with them.

My story One Loving Mother has, I believe at least a year between each chapters. Not proud of it, but things just ended up like that for it. I got too much unfinished shit on here because of life.

Part 11 just submitted. Hoping the reviewers sprinkle their pixie dust on it and put it up, like yesterday
