Is it ok to use italics to convey a characters thoughts? (When submitting a story)

That is an accepted use of italics. However, I would only do so occasionally. Entire paragraphs of italic thoughts are disturbing to read, IMO

If you need to show a lot of thoughts, break it up with a few actions. A sigh, massaging the temples, or something of that nature. Large blocks of italics are a little hard on the eyes.

Agree with VM on this. In its latest edition, the Chicago Manual of Style, the authority for published fiction, dropped approval of italics for thoughts--but thus far a lot of fiction publishers aren't accepting this. (I think it's the best means to be clear with short passages myself). There aren't too many publishers who like to have big blocks of italics, however--for any reason.

Thank you VM, Dark, and Blackbird pilot.
You've all been very helpful

SR71PLT is correct, magazine dont like italics...too hard to read.
