Okay, I thought of this brilliant idea last night, (not sure if it's that brilliant yet, until I get some feedback), to get some of OUR stories on chyoo to get tickin again. And by OUR, Im talking about probably every active-chyoo author out there.

Here's the "plan" I got:

We start a "chyoo thread adding trade program", ( , its the best way to describe it in a sentence I guess). Basically, we do "addtion for addition", almost like "eye for an eye" in a way, "I'll add to yours if you add to mine"... can I make myself ANYmore clear!!??!?

"But what if I don't like the story I have to "return the favour" too high_king?", is probably what the common question would be. And thats okay... its honest criticism. No rules here except, work it out with the one who added to yours, I'm sure an agreement can be easily reached.

So... my plan is pretty simple right? A 12 year old could understand it... assuming your 12 -_- ...

ANYWAY, just give me some feedback for this. Primarily, DO YOU THINK this can get our stories going on the chyoo site?

this "thread for a thread" idea has been kicked around since the beginning of Chyoo. I use to keep up with it pretty good, but back then the site was a lot more active and I ended up owing like 15 or 20 threads to other writers. And I had like 12 owed to me. Having the burden of writing a thread for another person's story, in a timely manner can be just too overwhelming. I like the idea, but I don't promise to write any threads. I just can't do it anymore. I've better.. more rewarding things.

Hmm... yes, that is an obvious problem isnt it? The pileing up of IOUs and UOMes. Perhaps, unlike in the beginning, we can pace ourselves a little more. A little "1 at a time" rule if you will... something to keep our crazy pile-ups in check.

Perhaps we can use a "status" system to "straighten out this ugly bag of snakes". We can add it too our signatures... just using words like, "open", "available", "busy" or "closed" as small 'signals' too other chyoo authors, will ensure that we're not working "over time" if you will.

Yeah, a great idea, but like niceguy2002tim says, it's something that has been banded around since forever. It's the unwritten rule of CHYOO. And now you've just gone and written it!

I always aim to add to people who add to my stories. It just seems fair. As for the whole "what if I don't like their stuff?" problem, I kinda figure that if someone reads your story and finds it interesting/inspiring enough to add to it, there must be some sort of common interest between the two writers. If that's true, then there should be similarities between your stories and the other person's, perhaps a common theme or writing style. Either way, there must be something that you can latch on to. If not, then I consider it a challenge!

Ahh.... I get it now.

So this "law" is already existing as we speak eh? *sigh* To bad Im not the first :( ... oh well, guess you cant win em all. :p

If thats the case, then I think I'll let this thread sloowly die, since its pre-finished goal has been... pre-finished  .

Really? Why not let it go the way of most of the threads on this forum and go totally off on a tangent?

So, Jaffa Cakes. Are they a cake or a biscuit? Discuss.

I know the idea of 'thread for a thread' has been batted around, but what about story collaborations? I'd like to get into some stories but sometimes there are so many different threads it's like several stories in one. I was wondering if people keep track of story threads and have brief descriptions about where the story leads so that I can get an idea of which threads in the story interest me and that I'd be willing to add on to.

Well, I have read a lot of stories on here, and I try to follow as many of the threads as possible (it takes a long time for some stories, like Aaralon's Discoveries). So, I know a lot about a bunch of stories.

Given the very large number of stories, I think the best idea would be to start a new thread with this question, ask about specific stories you are interested in, and see if people have read them and will comment.

OK cool, i'm kinda busy at the mo but at some point soon i will have a look for somewhere to add to one of your stories. Luckily, I've just started playing NWN!

That's ALWAYS good to hear man.

It's never too late to start playing NWN... well... at least until NWN2 comes out, LOL. :nana:

Are you plaing regular NWN? or do you have the PLATINUM version, like ME?

Hmmmm well heres my $0.02....anyways good idea but one slight issue...what if you just don't feel like writing at the time? I prefer to let the creative juices hit when they want and when I have time...which often translates to me pumping out a few threads then waiting a little while...in the meantime by this system I'd be owing a few...sorry but I kinda prefer to bounce around stories...adding a lil spice here and there.

lol, that's quite alright.

I suppose when a situation like that arises, you'd put a hold on additions to your own threads. That is until, you've "unloaded" your "stockpile", and ready to accept new additions again. 0_0

Could it work?... I dunno. Maybe if your patient. :p

Good in principle, but it means that at one time I got heavily indebted to some quite prolific writers and wrote so many threads for other people that I never got to contribute to my own stories (which after all were the ones I most wanted to see develop).

Now things seems to have flipped over the other way, which is equally unhelpful [sigh]. Not sure there is an ideal system.

One could always do what I do: create a complicated ranking system of stories that includes such factors as how interested I am in the story, whether I've contributed to a story before, whether I'm in the middle of writing something for that story now, whether the editor is slow to approve threads (or not at all), and whether I owe the editor threads. I keep track on an Access database, because I'm a sick fuck, and it amuses me. Then I write whatever I feel like writing.

So, just for your edification, here are the stories at the top of my list:

Rank 2:
18 and I Love It!
Fun with The Family!
Neverwinter Nights
School of Love
The Super
Wishful Thinking

Rank 5:
Aaralon's Discoveries
Sex With Consequences
The Choices We Make

Rank 9:
Party at Marcie's House

Rank 10:
Lawn Boy
Jamaican Resort
Weekend in an All Girls Dorm
Population Crisis

As for me, I want to stay away from posting in my OWN stories, just for now of course...

It's kind of sad when 90% of new additions are done by myself, LOL XD. So I just like to wait, and wait for a nice little patch of new additions before I go ahead and add my own again.

Meanwhile, I'm going in and out of stories I like on CHYOO, to promote my 'Neverwinter Nights' story by adding to others stories, who might be interested in mine.

OK, high_king, in answer to your question, I am playing NWN deluxe edition (with the 2 expansions), but I'm finding it pretty hard to get into because I'm also playing Morrowind which just seems better.

Torg, it's good to see that my story is in your top flight of sotries that you add to, and I will be adding to yours in good time. I'm just really busy at the moment.

I usually start a story because I have a story line in mind. Since writership is down, and not many people can see most of my stories, I can get a pretty long scene done by the time anyone else adds to it. Just look at Lawn Boy and His Son's Friends. Now my other two stories, Jamaican Resort and The Mailroom Guy, got great starts mostly from contributors, not me. In fact, only JR has a story line of mine at all, after the intro.

Just different approaches, I guess.

Fun with the Family just inspired me. There are some nice setups in there to build from. I hope I haven't changed things too much by making April's whole family swingers and/or polyamorous.

Anyways, I'll be patiently waiting for that addition man.

I had the impression that swingers regard their practices as a recreational lifestyle, and are otherwise somewhat conservative socially, while polys are about multiple overlapping love relationships transforming traditions and conventions (socially progressive).

Maybe "ethical slut" (see Easton & Liszt's book) is the right descriptive category.

Couldn't resist sticking my oar in when a technical term came up.

Hey gizmoo.

If your interested, be sure to check out my mod, on the 'Social' server in multiplayer. It's called, 'Slate's House of Lust', (thats the mod name). You dont need to download the mod, just the haks. Just go to nwvault.ign.com, and look for the CEP expansion, Jens 2.3 hak, and lord nikons nudes hak. Just those 3...

Once you got those 3 haks, be sure to drop by my mod server some time, on the 'Social' server.

Remember, its called, 'Slates House of Lust'.

I am definitely on board with this. If you write a thread for me I will add one back for you.

If I owe anybody one just PM me and let me know.

I have always felt like this was the best way to make sure I am writing for stories that are still live ones.

Thanks.

Absolutely

I'll try to do this as much as I can - starting with sending out a load of good karma to get some energy :) :D
