Now we all know that LIT does not post stories involving underage charactors.
My question is: Can you mention a charactors sexualy exploits when they were underage in the story?
For example: I was thinking of writing a story where it is necessary to mention that the main charactor (now somewhere between 19 and 22) lost her virginity when she was only about 14 and fell pregnant when she was about 15.
Can you do this?
I dont agree with ANY mention of charactors exploits when they were under the age of pubity, but if i cant mention what they got up to when they were in highschool this story will have to be posted on another site.

It sounds like you asked and answered your own question. If you are against any mention of underage characters having sex, even as historical backstory, why ask if it is permitted? If someone said 'yes,' would you go against your personal belief and post that story here anyway?

I don't know what the official line is, but I see nothing wrong with dropping the age at which she gave birth, or giving both her child's present age and her own and letting the reader do the math. If it isn't dwelled on, I don't see it being a problem. If you really want the official word, just shoot Laurel an email asking for her opinion.

I think that it's ok to mention that she lost her virginity at a young age as long as you don't go into details about the encounter.

No i said i dont think its write to even mention charactors under the age of PUBITY. pubity is between 11 and 15 years of age, however i would never go below 14 years of age in a story.

No i would never go into detail, just say that she got pregnant at 15 and lost it at 14 and stuff like that, to say what a slut she is basically, but reinforcing it rather than just saying "shes a slut ok people" lol

A pretty fine distinction, but point taken. Puberty is indeed around 14 in males, and 12 in females. My advice about asking the person who created the rules about her interpretaton of them still is sound. We can quibble all night over semantics and intentions, but only Laurel or Manu can tell you definitely what they wish (or don't wish!) to see posted on their site.

This question has come up before, and I do believe the answer to it then was that if it is something that is mentioned in the story, but not elaborated on, then it is permissible.

What you are proposing to do should be Ok, as long as you don't describe how she lost her virginity.

Good luck!

I think this may be a question for Laurel herself, since it is her site. I'm sure it's not easy to "catch" every minor detail in each story Laurel gets on a daily basis, and I'm sure it's a comfort to her to think her members follow and respect the rules of this site.

I, personally, would think that (even if you do not go into "detail") saying Bobbi-Jo was 15 when she gave birth to her son would still be a "no no" here at Lit. If you say Sammy is 18 and his mom is 33, both characters are legal...and there is ZERO mentioning of a minor in ANY sexual situation. If your reader knows math (lol), then he knows Bobbi-Jo was only 15 when she had her son.

There are ways around age without directly saying, "Bobbi-Jo was raped as a 14 year old child. By the time her 15th birthday rolled around, she had a son." Get it?

I am just trying to add a little more realism. The average age to loose your virginity (at least in my country) is 15. I know someone who lost it at 13, i know people getting married the second they turned 18, and i know an 18 year old with a 2 year old son.

Understandable.

There are many teen, and saddly pre-teen, kids losing their virginities and becoming lil' mommies and daddies in America as well. It's a sad fact, but not one that needed to be focused on at Lit, I would think.

I think the underage sex and "parenting" (let's face it, a large percentage of KIDS who produce kids are NOT parents, they're stupid kids...) topics do not belong here at Lit. There's a whole big world out there of "LEGAL" sex we can focus on... Why bend the iron rod towards breaking a Lit rule?

It is the Laurels call but i would think that if you do not go into detail it would be ok.

I also would like the age limit changed to include those characters who are at minimum pubescent. Would Laurel reconsider the limit now that the U.S. law has been clearly defined by the Free Speech victory over Ashcroft in the Supreme Court that said the 1st Amendment did cover writing erotic stories that inclde minors. Why wouldn't she, she allows rape, incest and other's. WHY NOT?

They can talk about teen pregnancy or a teen being sexually active at 12 on TV or in the newspaper so it should be legal as long as you don't go into detail about the actual act itself.
But then again it's totally up to the site because the law says that writting about the act is legal.
