The Typewriter

You're right. Seeing it done adds a whole new dimension to it. And they did a great job with it. Thanks for the link.

I've never seen it live either, but I'm much more familiar with this version or one other film version with a dozen or so secretaries doing the typewriter part in unison.

I think I've seen (or at least heard) this done in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. I've never seen a video clip of it being performed by a real orchestra, though.

It's pretty cool. Thanks!

I heard they got very little return on that video.

Sorry, I'll leave now, think I'll go have a Tab.

Sorry those were funny during 8th grade typing class.

I'm envious. I never took typing in 8th grade. Sadly, it is a skill I have never learned. I have to write everything out in longhand, take a picture of my scribblings with my iPhone, email the photo to myself, fetch the email, save the image attached, paste the image into an MS Word document, and then process the image with OCR software to extract the text before it is finally ready to post to the Internet. My cybersex partner has the patience of a saint.

Well if its any consolation, I forgot everything about it (being that eighth grade was 1982 for me). In fact I don't even know if a computer keyboard corresponds to an old typewriter.

What I do remember is they would give us exercises where you had to follow directions for spacing and where to type X's and if you did it right it would come out in a cool shape, like a bunny!

By and large, it does. And you owe that to Mr Scholes, who is responsible for the basic qwerty keyboard. It was done that way to permit the return of one key when another was pressed; you could clog up the works wonderfully sometimes).

And Leroy Anderson was a very popular composer of 'light music' in the 50s & 60s; the Typewriter is one of his best known.

It was magic to see it.

Well, what with the disappearance of the mechanical typewriter, this piece is doomed to be relegated to "early music" along with pieces written for the sackbut and the clavichord. So thanks for posting it, while we still can appreciate it ;-)

LOL! You're insane. But you're funny. :)

This video is awesome. Maybe I'm just easily amused at 2am, but it made me smile.
