was won in London over the weekend by an artist whose prize winning submission was a room where the lights went off...then on...then off...then on...

Madonna presented the artist with his £20,000 prize cheque.

I think the grand old man is probably turning in his grave this very moment to think his name is linked to such drivel.

So to remind people of one of his works...

The Fighting Temeraire, tugged to her Last Berth to be broken up, 1838

i agree turner is one of my fav artists yet some of the turner prizes i wouldnt even describe as artists let alone having any kind of talent

The standard of the 'Emperor's New Clothes' award, otherwise known as the Turner prize can be best illustrated by mentioning a couple of the past nominees work. One who used elephant dung in his paintings and another who displayed her soiled bed and dirty knickers.

Art? I think not.

And what was this I heard about Madonna calling someone a "Muthafukka" on the air? Didn't see it, myself.
I like modern art, even post-modern. I love abstract expressionism, but crummpled papers? Pull-the-other-one-school

The phrase "The Emperors New Clothes" seems apt.

But following in the footsteps of "Dead Cow in Formaldehyde" and that pile of bricks, what do you expect?

From the Turner prize I expect and get crap.

I'm only ashamed that the winner last night was a fellow Scot.

What if it was simply the best "Art" out there. I mean the other offerings...

Don't forget that woman who filled an old house full of concrete then removed the old house and just left the concrete standing there......

I don't get modern art at all.

I always thought that the point of art was to express yourself... To convey your deepest and most powerful emotions, feelings, thoughts.. How can you express yourself when you're doing it in such a way that NOBODY CAN FUCKING UNDERSTAND YOU?!?

Art has become a way for con artists and nuts to make money, they throw something together, and then everyone else in the "art crowd" pretends to understand it. That way they can feel like they're better than the people who don't.

But that's just my opinion, and I could be wrong.
