We all know we should eat healthy, exercise, don't blah blah blah, do blah blah blah, never blah blah blah, always blah blah blah.

What do you know you should but don't, or do, but hate.

Breads full of grain, wonderful stuff for your system, if you enjoy eating horse food, you spend more time picking bits and pieces out of your teeth than you do actually eating.

Milk, I love it, not that white coloured water, with bit's of who knows what goodness added, I mean the stuff that comes from cows, mmmmm.

Sugar, REAL sugar, not aspwhatsaname or nutracrap, or any of the other "tasteless" substitutes. I can taste them, for hours after, give that to the horses too, I'll suck the sugar cube myself.

We eat the multigrain bread, wholemeal if that's not available, but I haven't eaten white bread apart from rolls for months if not years.

Got to be full cream milk for us, might as well not bother putting milk in your coffee if it's skim or trim (yuk).

Speaking of coffee, 3-4 cups a day, with milk and 2 sugars

Since moving to Sydney I haven't eaten butter.....margarine instead. I don't eat sweet biscuits or cakes. I have more of a savoury than sweet tooth :)

Since I started going to the gym I haven't had any Maccas or KFC (in 8 months!) Lost all desire for it. Still have Red Rooster, chinese and fish and chips tho.....about once a week/10 days.

I still eat chocolate, and banana lollies, and salted peanuts. I've lost about 4kg (the weight in my sig ticker goes up and down - I've been doing weights and building muscle/toning).

I don't believe in depriving myself of foods I enjoy, but I've never been a binge eater and can stop at 4 squares of chocolate :D

I spent seven years working in a confectionary factory ( yes I made jelly babies) and I love 'em, I have at least got to the point where I don't eat them all in one sitting. Chocolate, I only eat enough to make me start to feel sick.

I can eat a whole bag of Maynard's red berry candies in a day. Which is unfortunate because I got them in Canada and have never been able to find that brand of red berries in the USA.

I have a box of candy sitting right next to me right now. Not once little box, a cardboard box about the size of your average dictionary, perhaps a little bigger, full of candy.

I was a major exercise freak last quarter (I went more than half the week to the gym) but I haven't made it to the rec center once this quarter. Not once.

I do pretty much only drink water and if I have caffeine it's the equivalent of one glass of caffeinated soda a day (with a fair amount of ice).

Is that the kind of truth you were looking for?

as far as nutrition goes, my biggest downfall is a chinese buffet. there's usually healthy alternatives available but i almost never opt for them. give me something fried, breaded, covered in sauce, etc. when i'm at those places. it's not really chinese food but when i splurge for it i go whole hog.

in general, i don't eat perfectly but when i eat well i can really feel a difference. i feel more alert and energized. when i eat poorly it can really get out of control... the more processed junk food i eat the more i crave it. fortunately it doesn't take too long to get out of that funk and back on track.

i've found that, for me at least, natural sugars in fruit are far better than processed sugars... and any whole grain product has a FAR better texture and flavor than anything made with processed flour.

I know what inspired this, and I'm right there with you, pq baby! The only difference being I use skim milk. Whole milk is...sorry, but it's yuck.

EJ, I know what you mean about the more junk you eat, the more you crave it. I went off it for a period of time, and the first few days were hell. I really thought I was going to go crazy.

Doctor's orders: drink a couple of gallons of water a day, and lay off the chocolate and tea.

I still eat chocolate, and drink an iced tea once a month. Don't get me started on my water intake.

"Real milk" is MUCH thicker and sweeter than anything you can find in the stores. Sadly, I can't find it anymore. The compound where I spent some of my time growing up is closed so that source is gone.

I do tons of things I'm not supposed to. I simply try not to do too much of any one "bad" thing. I say moderation is KEY.

I prefer whole grain bread but I eat it so infrequently that it would go bad. I stopped buying it a few years ago in favor of "white wheat" that my family prefers.

There's no way I could lay off my tea. It is a pleasant addiction and it, to me, is so much better than coffee. Chocolate I could live without, painfully, but I could.

try this Is this what you want?

I no longer buy fried chicken out. I much prefer my own.

I see no point in giving up ice cream. If the god hadn't wanted us to eat ice cream she wouldn't have made cows.

Most of the other things I've given up have been because of meds. When I drop them, then look out rum/coke because here I come. The other things that I like I eat in moderation.

I keep the bread in the freezer and take out what's needed at the time. It only takes a few minutes to thaw :)

I'm sitting here eating a Magnum ice cream and I don't feel guilty in the slightest :nana:  :D

Heartier breads actually taste better once you get used to them. White bread tastes like air to me now.
amen! white bread has ZERO taste to me too.

I have nothing positive to contribute to this thread. I plead The 5th.

Eeeeeexcellent, that's what I'm talking about, we know what we should do, but the reality is most of us don't fully live up to that.
BTW 5th amendment is not applicable in this thread, this is Aussie ground. :D

Even though I keep trim on the treadmil sometimes I just want to enjoy a nice cheeseburger, I completly admit it.

I've not been able to drink milk since I was pregnant with my first child (he's 29 now). I rarely eat bread, but when I do, it's whole wheat. I don't buy any processed food that has added salt or sugars (and yeah, it's difficult!).

Mainly, my diet consists of whole fruits and veggies, non-beef meats, and a few carbs. That said, I do enjoy the occasional steak. I drink coffee when I want (avg 1 cup/day). I drink a minimum of 100oz of water a day, and rarely drink soda or iced tea.

I have the occasional craving for (at different times) salty or sweet things. I try to Just say No to them, but sometimes, the food wins.

i hear ya. this is really pitiful. have you tried to find something that doesn't have high fructose corn syrup in it? venture out of the produce aisle and it's almost impossible. lol.

funny thing about sugar i noticed a few months back. a local store had some kind of off-brand sugar on the shelf and it actually said "fat free" in giant letters on the front. lol. stupid people. i'm waiting for the day someone finally realizes that sugar is far more harmful to most people than fat is. i'd categorically endorse eating fat (except trans fats of course) before sugar.

On a really funny note: I did several of the questionnaires on Real Age and I don't get enough Trans Fat???? In order to improve my health, I'm supposed to try to increase my unsaturated fats without increasing my overall fat intake..... WTF is up with THAT?

OK, fine, it's an Aussie thread so I'll take The -5th then! :p

For the past 6 months my sweet tooth has ruled. Thankfully this week chocolate doesn't sound good at all. I'm craving natural sweets in fresh fruits. I guarantee that won't last long enough.

Leah57 - How do you drink that much in a day! Drinking water has been one of the most difficult things for me to do. It is a big part of any successful diet. I lost around 30-35 lbs last year but never accomplished my goal of increasing my water intake to the suggested level.

At work we have bottled water available to us and I buy the Crystal Light flavor packets. I still can only drink about two bottles a day. How do you do it?

fwiw, when i started monitoring my water consumption, i just constantly had a bottle in my hand and sipped on it as often as possible. i'd put the appropriate number of bottles in the fridge the night before and the next day consciously worked toward consuming them before going to bed.

for some people 100oz can be a bit much. remember that if you overhydrate you run a serious risk of becoming disoriented or having dizzy spells and other such things. it depends a lot on your body type and weight. i think most people could safely do 100oz but that may not be true for all.

I would have to agree. I have a glass of OJ in the morning but other than that all I drink the rest of the day is water. I try at work to drink at least a bottle during the day but usually end up finishing it off on the way home.

On weekends it is much easier because I am working around the house or out in the yard so I actually get thirsty. It's not that easy when you have people in and out of your office or on the phone most of the day.

I tried a diet several years ago that required you to drink 8-8oz. glasses a day minimum. Most days that was impossible for me.

This last year with the weight loss, I just made sure that all I drank was water and tried to increase my intake without putting an amount on it. I was able to lose by just drinking 32oz./day, give or take.

I had a friend who dieted by just increasing her water intake and she lost around 50 lbs. She called it the "flush your system" diet. Worked in the short-term but she has put most of it back on.
