After finishing my novel, for over a month and a ahlf, no words would come. None at all. In desperation a few days ago, I started something. It's like pulling teeth. In desperation, I opened an old WIP that ha dbeen sitting around for over a year, wioth the intention of pilfering a descriptive passage. Damned if I didn't start reading it and end up finishing it.

Since then I have completed no less than three wips and a completely new idea, while I still haven't written word one on the one I was working on.

Just amazing how fickle my muse is.

I have started a number of new works and then seem to get stuck after one page. So, now I have about 10 diferrent WIPs with no motivation to finish any of them. :(

I still have the ideas but no opportunity...

WIPs?

It took me some time to work out that WIP = Work in Progress.

I had visions of some arcane perversity or obscure fetish. Women into Potatoes, perhaps.

My muses have just let me complete the Greek Myths Chain Story item Heracles and Omphale. I hope that now I can attack the back list and finish some of the incomplete series but the Muses were excited, not by Heracles, but by some other members of the Greek pantheon. Erato is ecstatic. Terpsichore has started break-dancing. I wish she would either stay classical or get up to date. She was doing Saturday Night Fever last month. She is embarrassing to be with.

I have so many WIPs that I have organised them into folders by month and year. There are still several from 2002 that are pending. From 2003 onwards the numbers increased. So far in 2006 the list has grown by 24 incomplete stories.

Back to the Word Processor.

*sigh* I don't really work by muse. Inspiration is a small part of my writing process. Mostly it's just a shitload of work... and some days I feel like doing the work, and some days (for weeks at a time) I don't.

Fortunately for those days when I don't, I have a few amusing little side projects...

Don't knock it Carson. I've read some of your work and if that's done without inpiration, then I'll have to conceed inspiration is overrated :rose:

 shush you.

Anyway that's just good editing.

Same deal here after my Halloween story.

Then I got a whack in a sensitive spot that that had me doubting my writing ability for months.

I managing to fight that off. But it's still like pulling teeth. Sigh.

My muse, Veronica, is off with Abs' in Cancun, I believe.

The bitches need to come home.

WIP folder...... It scares me to look... somewhere around fifty stories are hanging around in there waiting on my Muse to get interested again....

Muse schmuse.

If you have to wait for inspiration to work, you're not a writer, you're a secretary.

You're just irritable because your boss won't sleep with you after you finish the dictation. ;)

Of course, she's fickle! She's female! :D You like girls, Colleen. Just flirt with the Muse a little. :D

My problem is not the must, its the discipline to do something with the ideas.
