Joel Faucett stood at the glass doors that separated him from the entire staff and crew of Knight Fund Inc. Being one of the founding members of the hedge fund, he had worked with his two best friends in the world, Pete Knight and his wife Freya Knight. Between his ability to work the algorithms needed to select the most profitable funds, Pete's ability to work clients and customers, and Freya's ability to manage the more than 80 staff that worked for the fund, the two had turned an initial investment of an measly 2.5 million into a hedge fund that was valued at over 10.2 Billion.
Pete was the ultimate salesman with the unique ability to zone in quickly on how to convince a client to invest in the firm and had brought in a huge quantity of clients in on the promises of wealth and pursuant of their own dreams.... police funds, retirement funds, 401Ks funds, you name it, Pete could bring them into the fold. They woudl take the combined resources of those funds and invest into the millions of different opportunities that would turn profits for them and their investors. That was Joel's job. He had built the ulitimate program that would scan the entire world wide market looking for particular interest markers, then reach out to the different PM's and fund managers who would then make the investments. His programs kept the Fund nearly 20% above the standard profitability curve that was out there. People had tried to by his program, lease it, steal it. But he would not sell... and he never let anyone touch it but him and a select few people he trusted. He could have retired off the program sales alone, but in doing so take away the Knight Fund's advantage. In addition, he could... he would NEVER do that to Pete and Freya.
They had been friends since college when Pete and met up with Joel in a class... and instantly became friends. Pete was the ultimate salesman with a head for business.... and Joel had the head for investing in the markets. Freya kept a tight leash on the employees who handled parts of the funds for investing. She was the HR director, the counselor... and the company's 'Momma'. She was well loved as well and all three of them knew that the moment anyone got into her face, the entire company would come to her defense. Yes... the employees were very fond of the momma. Likewise, they were very fond of their papa as well when looked to Pete who was ferocious and a genius investor.
But none of this machine worked... without Joel. He was the real brains behind the scenes... he was an awkward man who didn't care much for dealing with people. His best friends were those online program troubleshooters and mathematicians. He let Pete and Freya handle the people... he handled the programs and the code. In the end, they each needed each other... more than they care to admit.
