I have come to the conclusion that readers of anal stories are the toughest audience. I decided that after seeing how most of my anal stories, and I have written quite a few, are not rated as highly as those in other categories. Although I get some very laudatory feedback, I also get some chiding me for various reasons. I checked the top lists and found the top ranked anal story has a score of 4.8 and the second ranking one has a score of 4.77.

Loving Wives was actually lower, at 4.79 and 4.78 but I believe that is because of all the trolls who one-bomb the stories about "No good assholes who fuck other men's cheating slut wives".

What do other writers think of this?

I think you may be right as far as scoring for anal stories goes. It's odd, for some reason my anal stories always get more views and votes than stories in other categories and more positive comments and feedback. So, maybe a more viewed category= more trolls? In as far as the type and amount of comments I've gotten, I'd say it's not a tough crowd, but the votes and rating certainly have reflected otherwise.

How do you see ratings for stories- other than your own?
I can see my ratings on my "view submissions" page, and that's all I know about...

If you go to the 'stories' pages you can click on 'toplists' and then by category it will show you the top rated stories. :)

I think that the trolls should be put to death without trial. [I am also willing to discuss the matter of a little torture here!] As to the difference in category scoring, I have no opinion.

Actually they are easy. I wrote a story under an assumed name in anal and it was nominted for an award. Maybe you just dont write it well? ;)

Don't pull any punches there Charley. :catroar:

I'm always amazed at the sheer volume of readers of anal and incest categories, it's staggering. Going for Sci-fi/Fantasy I sure limited my readership base.

I think the hardest people to write for are the fan fic set :)

Note: That didn't stop me from trying and failing, but oh well :)

The thing is, with Fanfic you don't just have a story format expectation like in some catagories, but the reader ALSO has character expectations. If they are reading fan fic here they probably already have some idea of who should be doing whom.

I found the nicest people to be in the mature section. Such a range of what stories people want to read, and so much more patient with slow build up :)

But what am I writing? erotic horror  why oh why?

You might have a certain point there. The last two anal stories I posted, one in Sept. and one this month have scores of 4.56 and 4.64 respectively. I have been more careful with them, taking great pains to make them as smutty as I could while trying to be fairly realistic. That's much better than most of the older ones have done and they have both had laudatory feedback.

Even so, the older anal stories might range between 4.00 and 4.25 while the EC stories I wrote at the same time are on the hot list. That would show that readers of anal stories expect more than readers of some other stories.

The question I would pose would be: More of what?

It might also be that exclusive anal readers, like some of the other fetish categories, have very specific rituals, or hot buttons, that they expect; and those triggers might not be as obvious to someone who doesn't share a similar mindset, or who engages in butt sex on a more casual level. Mebbe?

Or not.

Luck,

Yui

More quality, I suppose, whatever that may mean. Some of my older stories, including the anal ones, were written quickly, and were not well edited or proofread. I have noted that when reading them later. As long as the EC or Group stories had the smut the readers were looking for, they could ignore poor editing but the Anal readers would not.

More smut, maybe. On the two recent stories I mentioned, the narrator performed analingus before fucking the woman's asses. Not all the earlier stories included that although some of them did.

One generally negative PC said a story needed more buildup. I'm not sure what that means but I have started going into more detail about applying lubrication. I have always described the penetration in great detail and have had it take place slowly, so that wasn't what was meant by buildup.

In any event, I am trying to write better. It will still be smut, but it should be better smut.

Build up can mean the events leading up to the sex - the story that brings them together and gives the sex context. You've said that your stories tend to be shorter vignettes, so the characters may have gotten to the smut sooner than the reader would have liked.

That could be but I don't intend to make many changes in my basic style. I have only one third party anal story and it has a lot of buildup. It is actually a sequel to another story and the first story goes into a lot of explanation as to why the chartacters are doing what they are. That story has a score of 4.32, the last time I looked, which is not too bad but is below my average.

In most of my first person stories, whether E/C or Anal, I have a few paragraphs describing who the woman is and what her situation is and why we are getting together, and then I get into the filth. Usually, I have no physical description at all of the narrator. I have never seen any real need for any.

I just wandered through the toplist in the celebrities section, since, unfortunately, I have two stories that will go into there, and... How much horrible writing!
What a paucity of characterisation, what a low level of empathy, what, by and large, simplistic imagination! There were a few exceptions, I am glad to say. But, it makes me think twice about submitting those stories here. :(

Hey Stella,
You know your stories do not fall into the lacking catagory, at least the one you sent me. You'll just stand out from the pack.

*hugs*

*smooches* Hugo!
The pack hates me, over there. My first story in the category got one-bombed its first day out, and a gentleman sent me feedback telling me that I needed to learn more about grammer- [sic] but not to be too discouraged.
My story won't make it onto the top list!

Sorry, you feel that you are not being well recieved.
As an aside...I know I have seen it covered here before, but how do you create a link like those in your signature?

You need the vB Code page, here. You should find what you're looking for.
