The Temptation of Realism

Okay, so I've been tempted to dive into some things more real than what I've been writing here. In saying that, I mean I've been tempted to write about penises shorter than seven-feet and breasts that women can actually walk upright with without surgery.

More acurately, since I have neither seven-foot penises (penii?) or ZZ breasts in my stories, I guess I was thinking about writing stories about people who are more normal. Not necessarily characters who are closer to the higher standard that many people place their characters here on, but more toward the middle of said standards. Guys with a little less muscle and a little more unsightly hair. Girls with some extra weight, maybe a big nose, or stretch marks.

I guess what I want to ask is whether my fellow AHers believe there might be a place for such stories here on Literotica.

What do you think? Whlie I know John and Jane Q. Troll won't appreciate said ideas, do you think there's room for less than perfect (or less than not quite perfect) in stories here? Do you think there's enough readership here that would appreciate such a story to bother writing and submitting one here?

Q_C

Absolutely. Less than perfect people have hot sex too. Readers can identify with that.

Go for it!

I'd certainly read it as I get sick of all the perfect characters out there in lit stories.

I am sure there would be plentyof people who'd enjoy it other than me too :)

i do older folks, over-upholstered ones, all kinds. I don't always score big, but I do okay and I have a good time. My latest has a sad sack with nine fingers madly plowing a soft, rounded, very voluptuous girl. It got a four to start out with. But I loved writing it. She kicks him and spurns him for doing it, too.

Heartily seconded.

By the way, have you noticed how often LadyJeanne and I post right after each other?

I'm beginning to suspect that we might be the same person.

If I liked Guinness as much as you do, I'd start to wonder too.

Are you denying that you do? Shocking. I love Guinness as all right-thinking and morally upright folk do. ;)

Ordinary people travail the entire gamut of human endeavour, sexuality merely a single attribute.

It wont be the physical presentation of the characters that determines if your story is readable but the way you choose to tell the story.

I know, I know, ye olde nectar of the gods, yadda yadda. Grey Goose and tonic with a lime and I'm a happy girl.

Well, at least we know you're not me.

Sherry?

Don't believe I've ever tried sherry. It always sounds tasty when people in stories drink it. And Julia Child seemed to have a lipsmacking fondess for cooking with it.

Are you on the West Coast, dear? Perhaps we just share a time zone.

Hear, hear.

Go for it, QC.

When I think of it, characters often could be very realistic in that aspect. Most of the best stories I've read here doesn't specify very much at all about how the characters look. Imagination fills in the blanks. Next time I read one of those, I'll make them more average, and see what happens.

Cool.

Thanx for the responses, everyone. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. After I finish up with this story for the "Magic in America" challenge, I might just jump into one of those ideas. It would probably get killed in the voting process, and most likely draw some unkind Public Comments, but hey, my ego needs dropped down a few pegs anyway. LOL

Oh, and Shangln, Guiness.... ;) Excellent choice. Shame the place I go to keeps it in the cooler. (yes, I'm in the States)

I dont usually make my characters out as pornstar wanabees or uber people. sometimes it even improves stories if the characters are normal or even less than normal looking.

A lot can be made out of the fact the people you portray are imperfect in their own eyes.

As previously quoted even ugly sods like me like to shag!

;)

Sherry is lovely. Sort of warm, round, toasty, rather sweet flavor. Just the thing for a small relaxer after a hard day of work. (Or before.) (Or during.)

Alas, I am not on the West Coast at the moment. I quite miss it.

Now you're bringing back those visions of frat party red grain alcohol punch and sticky floors. Stop it.

I guess it depends on whether ot not we're talking about fantasizing or literature... at least for my preference it does.

Great writing doesn't have to have the unrealistic perfection or character-stereotypes. But, in my porno, I like good lookin'. I like reading about pert and tight and hard and big and shapely and soft and model-esque... I like it just as much as I like looking at Traci Lords videos. Same thing.

That was the main basis for my nano novel- "Imperfect Beauty" although, I don't know how much that actually came across in my complete manuscript. I didn't harp on it, but I definatly wanted to make a story about a girl who was 'beautiful but not perfectly so' and w/ all the insecurity that accompanies being imperfect. You know that you're supposed to realize that no ones perfect, but you still feel sometimes that you fall short...

**at least that was the idea I started out with, although I don't think that I developed it the way I meant to...

My last work was heavily realism. The characters are not physically attractive and are very damaged emotionally. The sex is awkward and the romance filled with screw-ups and missed opportunities.

I didn't do noticeably worse because of all that so I would say you're safe.

I've also done it a couple times before with the gritty realism and many have often commented that they liked it better because they could insert themselves in more easily. You'll get bombed by proxy porners like Joe but you'll get more respect from the Masses.

I always write loosely around someone I know, and since I do not know women with 33 XXX's and guys larger than 10" at most, I can't even imagine reading a piece . . . (no offence), and never have I on Lit read anything that describes non-sexual sizing of body parts. I think metaphor, not numbers, are sexier and people actually enjoy it. I am certain, there is a market for the real.

My readers, of certain stories, often ask, as I am sure many can attest . . . did this really happen? And it turns them on knowing it may have ;)

Just a thought :)

Edit to add: the porn market is currently saturated by reality niche, more so than glam production. This should give you an idea of the current milieu . . . funny enough, it often follows G-rated tv popularity. ;)

My stories are riddled with those sorts of things.
Aside from emotional scars, you'll see small breasts, long noses, horrid scarring on faces and bodies...about half of my girls are very plain looking.
I also stay far away from penis sizes. Far away.

Luc, if you're going to be a shit, just put me on ignore... nobody's stopping you and you've got nothing to say to me. You've got a seriously unhealthy obsession about bringing me up by name in unflattering ways.
