Will today be the day?

That thought was always in Natalie's head as she got her coffee every morning. She was one of the few that arrived extra early only because that allowed her time to leave early also. And with the recent time change, it helped a lot.

Nattie always made sure to take her time when making her morning coffee in the break room. Even though the stuff tasted rancid, she still drank a little of it just as an excuse to be there and perhaps 'accidentally' run into him. And it happened a lot. But it was always a quick 'hello' or 'morning' type thing. Most of the time she was pretty sure he didn't notice because he was almost always talking with some other pretty female from his department.

Maybe it would help if she perhaps spoke to him. But what would she say to him? 'Hey Jason, how's your computer running today?'

Yeah, she knew he never really used it unless it was for something he monitoring...not that she peeked at his files or anything. Nattie just knew the top brass had their cute little secretaries do all their work for them while they went out to play golf or took extra long vacations. OK, so they did more than that but sometimes, it didn't seem like it.

Hell, most of the important employees didn't really talk to the tech nerds downstairs. Screw that, most never talked to them at all. It was as if I.T. was from some different world...

Perhaps Nattie needed to change the way she looked. Sure, she wasn't as pretty as the women upstairs but she wasn't ugly either. She usually wore her wavy red hair pulled back into a ponytail or wore a headband to keep it out of her face. Her clothing consisted of some thing like a uniform, although it wasn't but it was something she was accustomed to wearing every day; black pants and a black top. Nothing fancy.

Today was a bust. No Jason...oh well...Making a face, Nattie took her coffee and headed to her department.

Maybe tomorrow.

Natalie. Natalie was her name. Jason reminded himself of this easily, every day that he saw her in the office lounge, getting her coffee. The girl’s striking figure had caught his attention the very first time; he had been about to say something when his secretary, Julia, had cut him off. Something about an urgent teleconference.

But he had remembered her, and a little digging had produced her identity and her resume. And then he knew so much more about her, but… it was clinical, almost. Excellent educational experience, volunteerism, athletics even. Basically fresh out of college, from a small town somewhere several hours away.

All those little details ran through his head every time he walked into the lounge and saw that one-of-a-kind ass in those perfectly fitted black pants. That slim figure called to him. Some days, it took everything in his power to prevent himself from coming up behind and pressing himself against her in a rather lewd manner.

Jason shook his head, trying to get his thoughts off of her. He thought back home to his wife. Their kids. Everything he stood to lose.

The phone rang. “Hello Mister Hopkins, yes, we need to talk about the merger. My client isn’t impressed with your fine print on the deal…”

He wasn’t looking forward to this conversation. This particular merger was tech-heavy, two large web-based sports gambling outfits, and a lot of the language had been, frankly, Greek to a programming illiterate like Jason. He wound up ending the call early. Negotiations would be ongoing. But he needed someone who could turn all this gobbeldy-gook into Shakespeare.

Although Natty knew a lot about programming and computers and such, there were some things she didn't really get.

Sure, you could say sex was one of those things but in general, she didn't get a lot of the information the upper departments needed or wanted. The silly demands they made from time to time of the IT department was sometimes nearly impossible but somehow, they came through for the higher ups.

There were few times some of them had to do consulting with the management team and thankfully, in her 4 years since being here, she hadn't taken part of that at all. And truthfully, she hoped she never would. Natty was the definition of a true geek. She spent most of her time alone and hardly had what one would consider a date in the past 2 years. Hell... she was still a virgin but that was something never confided in anyone.

Today was a slow day. Everything was running at optimum efficiency so basically, it was a boring day.

At least, it was starting to seem that way...
